Yeah, we know we have been on a bit of a summer hiatus these last few weeks. Don't blame us for the lack of any decent telly on the tube these days. It's gotten so bad that we are watching I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and are just too stunned to even find the words to write about that clusterfuck.

But today we came across the "Why the F*** Didn't We Think of That?" moment. After all temperatures are starting to go on the rise along with gas prices, so your trusty Snuggie has been put in the closet for a few months but you are wanting something that you can wrap around yourself and still be able to go out in public while looking chic. American Idol - Who won the crown

In a showdown of the likes that haven't been seen since the Crusades, Prince Kris slayed King Adam to be proclaimed the eighth American Idol. How are we coping with our dear Glambert's demise? We're okay with it because like some of his predecessors who were predicted to win like Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry and Clay Aiken, Adam will be around for a long time to come. So congrats, Kris and see you next year.

American Idol - And then there were two

It's that horrible time of year when American Idol comes to a close. I never like the last performance show because of the usually lame and boring song that is made for the winner so it is with a heavy heart that we tune in to watch King Adam do battle with Prince Kris for the last time.

Kris wins the coveted spot of going second. I never really understand how this affects the show but whatever. Let's get down to business. Both start with their favorite previously performed songs. Adam opts for Mad World which was a total show stopper the first time and seems to be the same this time. The boy just goes on stage and works it and what shows why he is the true professional is because he always thanks to the band. Does he do anything wrong??? Kris comes out and does Ain't No Sunshine and it's just as unremarkable for me as it was the first time. As my partner in crime described Kris, he's like the amazing buskers you see down in the Underground in London who are fantastic performers looking for a chance but just don't have that it factor.

Simon Fuller makes the second song choice selection. Adam gets Change is Gonna Come and with an entirely new look hits the stage and shows his diversity. Kris was selected What's Going On and once again it was safe and nice but not wow.

The third and final song of the evening is the American Idol inspirational song of the year, No Boundaries, which was co-written by Kara. I hate this part of the whole competition and even Adam seems to be struggling with this tripe but once again makes it his own. Let's face it there's not much anyone can do with these songs of hope, dreams and contrived feel good lyrics. Kris' turn and it starts off a little rough and continues its bumpy road and much like his other songs tonight, it's just meh.

Who do I think should win? Well, duh, Adam, of course, but I have a horrible feeling that the media has politicized the whole finale and made this more of the straight all American boy versus the gay individualist. According to Dial Idol, it's a close call with Kris being proclaimed the winner by an ant's fart but like I have said before it doesn't matter if Adam wins or loses, he's set for life.

American Idol - It's the Final Countdown

I know I flaked on recapping last night's show. I am still a bit pissed off about Allison getting kicked off. I did, however, watch the performances last night and Adam rocked it as usual despite me not being that pleased that he opted for for what I think was an obvious choice but at the same time I think he might have gone with Aerosmith just to show Danny how it's supposed to be done. Speaking of Danny, I hate to admit but he can sing well but between the horrid white boy dances and him picking of his own volition, Joe Cocker's You Are So Beautiful, I still don't like him. Kris rocked the hell out of Kanye West's Heartless but as my viewing partner said, "Who is this guy because I couldn't tell you one song he did all season?" I actually agree with him even though Kris has stepped it up each week, he's still forgettable and safe for the most part. If you don't want to know who went home tonight, don't read any further.

Who got the coveted top two spots for next week's finale at the Kodak? I won't bore you with a recap of tonight's show because frankly I don't feel the need to waste your time like the producers over at Fox. I got my wish and Danny is going home FINALLY! Definitely, a week too late but at least he's out and I have a feeling that Adam will be a shoo in to win now but you never know. I still maintain that he might have a bigger and better career if he doesn't win but either way we will be seeing him for some time to come.

American Idol - That's It, I'm Done

After tonight's results show, I am thinking I might just be done with American Idol. I know an idle threat (no pun intended) but seriously, is it just me or does this feel like a 21st version of the famous Twenty One game show being fixed!!!! Danny is safe and Queen Allison is going home. Did we all just enter into the Twilight Zone or was the swine flu propaganda just distracting the world while secret sonar weapons were used to make us all deaf??? I'm just too pissed off to even write any more.

UPDATE: This is my theory. The only reason Allison went home instead of Danny is because producers didn't want us to be afflicted by that horrid scream again during his good bye performance. That is really the only rational explanation I have for this travesty!

UPDATE 2: Upon reflection, Allison looked as though she knew what was going to happen during the whole show, which leads me to also believe that she got herself a record deal which would be fantastic.

The Biggest Loker - VOTE OFF SIX TITS!

I have just learned that over on The Biggest Loser the vote is between Ron and Mike to get to the finale. My DVR decided to only record the first two minutes so I am frantically trying to find it online to watch.

I haven't loved that many people this season. I don't feel any of them were getting the message what with the black team's gorging trip to the spa (Tara, you really disappointed me that week.) Then Filipe and Sione who just unnerved me from day one and when the tears started raining down because they couldn't train with Bob, I just wanted them out. But Ron aka Six Tits proved to be the last straw for me this season and for once I found myself hoping that Filipe would make it to the final four instead of this idiot. I am so sick of his whiny candy ass groveling for sympathy all the time. Sure he's lost the equivalent of a middle aged woman but what a two headed snake he turned out to be. I get why he was so fat now. He's just greedy with everything. I do understand that he was fighting for his son, Mike, all along but too many worthy players like Kristen were let go too soon because of him. So I implore you all go to NBC and develop some carpal tunnel to eliminate Ron from the running and keep Mike in the finale and I am really hoping that Tara wins the whole thing and if not, then Helen.

American Idol - The Quartet

It's quickly nearing the end of American Idol 8 and we are finally down to the final four and better yet, it's rock night. I have zero fears for my reigning royal favorites, Adam and Allison. Kris and Danny, however, might just finally be in some serious trouble with the latter going home if I had my way.

On to the show....

Apparently tonight's taping was filled with mishaps so the final four didn't get a proper dress rehearsal so this should be very interesting indeed. The mentor for RNR week is none other than bad ass top hat wearing Slash from Guns N Roses and Velvet Revolver. Sure, he's not known as a singer but he's one hell of a musician and natural performer. A far better choice than Quentin Tarantino, don't you think??

Adam is up first and picks Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love. BRILLIANT CHOICE!!!! It would have been too obvious to pick a GNR song so why not go with the original bad asses of rock. Sheer AWESOMENESS!!!!!! America we have our winner and it's Adam! Sure he excels at any genre he does but this is where his passion comes out the best.

Allison hits the stage with Janis Joplin's Cry Baby. Another brilliant song choice. Adam and Allison just get it. They know what song to pick, how to perform it and kill it week in, week out. Of course, people will say she was just doing an impersonation but as we have seen that's her voice and there is no denying that she has that old soul blues voice just like Janis. And she's only 17!!!! SEVENTEEN!!!!!

Before we get to the final two performances, Kris and Danny do the first duet of the night, Styx's Renegade. I have never heard this song before and frankly, don't wish to ever have to experience it again. It was a hot mess! I do like to see that I had the same idea as the producers to do a rock duet, namely, for Allison and Adam's sake. I would love if they did Ozzy Osbourne and Lita Ford's If I Close My Eyes Forever. That would be amazing.

Kris recovers from that trainwreck of a duet with Danny. I'm not sure that I am crazy about his song choice, The Beatles' Come Together. It was a decent performance but nothing memorable for me. I hate to say it, Kris, but I think you might just land in the bottom two tomorrow night.

Is Danny freaking serious choosing Aerosmith's Dream On????? Sure he has a raspy voice but he has nowhere near the vocals that ballad requires. Awful!!! My ears burn. It reminded me of those office parties where John in accounts gets up on stage after his department begs and pleads for him to do his favorite karaoke tune and the rest of the party just watches cringing inside. Adam could have done this song and made it amazing but nope, Danny, I know it's time we show you the door and after your smug reaction to Simon, don't let the door hit you in the ass. Forget the swine flu, Danny's performance just managed to do permanent damage to millions of eardrums around the globe!

Adam and Allison's duet closes the show and it's Free's Slow Ride. Not sure I am that happy with the song choice but if anyone can make this amazing, it's them. It felt more like a jam than a contrived talent show duet. Good job, kids. I bet Danny is seething backstage after his hideous attempt to parody Adam.

So get thee to the phone lines and develop some carpal tunnel for King Adam and Queen Allison and while you are at it throw some votes Kris' way. It's time Danny goes home! I am fearful though because Vote for the Worst is backing him so please people help take the Gokey out of Idol!

American Idol - Who's singing Hit the Road Mack?

Big band week was pretty blah last night. The Rat Pack theme just didn't do it for me and I'm in no mood to watch three guest performances tonight from the likes of former Idol winner, Taylor Hicks, Jamie Foxx and Natalie Cole. So I am racing through the show tonight.

I guess producers thought it would make things more interesting to have Adam pick the group that he thought he belonged to - Danny and Allison (obviously both are safe) or Matt and Kris (the jury is still out on Kris' sudden darkhorse status). Of course, Adam picks Allison and Danny and is quickly corrected by Ryan and physically moved over to the bottom with Matt and Kris. This being reality tv's standout star show I don't doubt for one second that producers rig the bottom three contestants each week. It adds spice after all and keeps us voting and making money for both FOX and AT&T.

After some guest performances, we learn that Kris is safe. I just checked Dial Idol and if they are correct and I know that at this part of the season, it's too close to call using their methods, it should have been down to Matt and Kris, thus, I maintain that this is just a publicity tactic for the show or perhaps Adam already has a recording contract in the works. Personally, I think he should win because he's damn talented but at the same time, I am thinking a non-American Idol related career would be better for him.

Finally the moment of truth and it's a sigh of relief. Matt is hitting the road finally. Can't wait for rock week next Tuesday. Kris and Danny must be shaking in their boots.

American Idol - The Top 5 Goes Rat Pack

This has to be my least favorite week on Idol. Seriously, are any of these kids going to be recording a big band era type cd anytime soon? I am not thinking so. Thus, it is with some kicking and screaming that I am going to watch this week's show. The mentor for the week is Jamie Foxx. I am over the guest mentor thing this season. It really doesn't serve a purpose other than filler for the show and lord knows, the show is packed enough already.

So on with the show. Kris is up first. Many are touting that he will be making it to the finals and I am kind of hoping he gets there versus Danny. He chooses Fred Astaire's version of The Way You Look Tonight and does it well but nothing wow in the least. If there is any advice that Kris needs to listen to is to get some confidence and fast. Remember he's the same guy who more often than not assumed he was in the bottom each week early in the competition and I think he really needs to step it up on the personality and confidence levels to really make it much further/

Allison is up next and with her husky raspy voice she can nail this. She chooses the Gershwin Brothers' classic, Someone to Watch Over Me and sure enough she's fantastic. I know that there is buzz that Allison isn't a favorite for the finals but I just don't get it. Sure, she's not the cute little skinny blond sterotype pop strar but honestly, does the world need another one of those??? I really hope she makes it to Kodak night. She deserves it and either way, she will have a recording contract long before she becomes an adult, that's for certain.

Matt opted for Rodgers and Hart's My Funny Valentine. He really was just blah tonight. I have nothing more really to say about his performance other than he didn't deserve the save a few weeks ago. With any luck, him or Danny are going home tomorrow night and he didn't score any points with me when he got all cocky after Kara's critique.

Danny's up with Arlen and Mercer's Come Rain or Come Shine. I have learned that I can tolerate Danny if I take my eyes away from the tv screen. He still irks the hell out of me. If he wins this, he will most definitely be releasing a Christian soft rock album, which will be boring as all hell. I will admit that he has a great soul quality to his voice but remember avert your eyes.

Adam closes the show with Feelin' Good by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse. And of course, he changes things up and makes it his own. Sure he could have donned a fedora like Matt and just done a jazzy little number but this is Adam we are talking about. He took it to a burlesque level and made it more theatrical with an edge. Sure not everyone's cup of tea, but this boy knows what he needs to do to win it and brings it every week.

Predictions for tomorrow: Matt goes home and I think he will be joined at the silver chairs by Kris. Sorry but it's the end of the show and I can't tell you one thing about Kris' performance other than it didn't suck.

American Idol - And then there were five

Last night proved to be one of the more memorable nights in a long time on American Idol. Almost everybody made great song choices and made them there own. Alas, that was where enjoying disco week ended though. Paula got a hold of the kids this week and choreographed one of the worst opening group medleys ever. Damn my DVR being extra busy tonight!!!! It had nothing to do with the dancing, more of the song choice, exaggerated mannerism, horrible costumes. I guess they are getting us ready for So You Think You Can Dance.

Now on to the results (I will not even comment on the Ford commercial.) Ryan gets down to business and Lil is, as predicted, is gone this week. I love that they didn't make her wait the whole hour. Even though we didn't have any mentors or special guests last night, they sure as hell made up for it tonight with a whole host of disco superstars that I am sure eighty percent of the audience wouldn't recognize if they were sat right next to them.

Back to the results, Prince Kris is safe tonight and rightly so. He was really fantastic last night. If he keeps this up, I am thinking Danny might just not make the final three which would make me very happy. King Adam is up next and looking very Elvis circa 1969 live special, is safe. Danny is proclaimed safe after a very cocky Q+A session with Ryan. I am really hoping he is either booted off the show completely or at least winds up in the bottom three soon so he can wipe that smug smile off his face. Anoop, as expected, is in the bottom yet again. How many times has been there this season? I wonder if the judges regret keeping him in the wild card round.

It's between Matt and Allison. Matt should be sitting next to Anoop but it's my girl, Allison who is led to the silver stool. I know a lot of people just don't care for her, which I just don't understand but I think she will be safe and this is just a little curveball to throw us off the scent. Seriously, Matt should not have been saved last week and should be right there with Anoop but as I said before it has to be the end of the line for Mr. Desai. Of course, we will have to wait another eighteen minutes before all being revealed.

David Archuleta is paying the Idol stage a visit. In my opinion, he still sucks and reminded us all why he didn't win last season. The boy's voice was reminiscent of Peter Brady when they decided to record "When It's Time to Change." Absolutely awful!

And I was right, Anoop is finally gone. Now if we can just get Danny and Matt out, we will have an amazing top three.

American Idol - The Top 7 Visit the 70s

I know most people dread disco week on American Idol but I really don't mind it. Anything beats big band week. Remember those from the early seasons. As we all can recall, the judges used the save last week on Matt. Completely inane if you ask me. What a waste despite the fact that he didn't deserve to get the boot either. So tomorrow night there will be two going home and with it being disco night, this might just not be a good thing for some. So let's get to shaking our groove thing as the top seven take on the seventies.

Lil Rounds opens the show with Chaka Khan's iconic classic, "I'm Every Woman." Unless she makes it something spectacular, I am thinking Lil's time is up and from the start she's all over the place. How very disappointing because I had high hopes for Lil in the beginning but she just never brought anything really remarkable to any of her performances.

Kris breaks from the theme in my opinion when he chooses Donna Summer's "She Works Hard for the Money." He definitely made it his with what felt like a beach side resort type arrangement but it worked. Kudos, Kris.

Danny picks Earth Wind and Fire's "September" and looks to be in a dancing mood (god, help us!) It feels safe and cruise ship worthy. Of course, I still don't think he will be booted off the show yet, but it would be refreshing to see him sweat a little bit and be in the bottom three just once.

Allison is a genius with a rocker version of Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff." And just to be cliche, she was on fire! Absolutely brilliant and is right there with Adam's Mad World a few weeks ago as the top performances of the season. Randy and Kara, who has no reason to be brought back next season, must be deaf to make the criticisms that they made.

I would have loved if Adam had come out in full drag and done an Abba or Gloria Gaynor number but he opted for the young Elvis look again tonight and went for an acoustic arrangement of Yvonne Elliman's If I Can't Have You. Another awesome performance from my boy! He really can do no wrong.

Matt -\picks the quintessential disco anthem of the Bee Gee's Staying Alive. He did nothing to make it his own. Sure he has that Justin Timberlake soulfulness that makes his performance watchable but not memorable this week. A definite disappointment after the judges saved him last week.

Anoop closes the night with Donna Summer's Dim All The Lights and frankly, I am hoping that they dim the lights on him. Boring, safe and bland. My last wish for this season's Idol could finally come true and we will see the end of Anoop tomorrow.

Well, it's starting to get a bit repetitive over here at our predictions each week. Queen Allison and King Adam are the winners again tonight and I will add Prince Kris to the mix because his arrangement really was that good. Lil and hopefully Anoop will be gone tomorrow night. It's way too close to tell over at Dial Idol and Vote for the Worst is still backing Lil, so it really could be anyone's guess tomorrow.

American Idol - What the hell just happened?

I'm really not sure how tonight's results show is going to go. Sure, I know it's going to run over an hour because the producers are trying to cram too much garbage into an hour but who will stay, who will go and will the judges use the coveted save? With any luck, Anoop will be gone tonight and we can continue watching the show with a little less boredom.

There's a whole host of special guests tonight: Quentin Tarantino returns, Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson will be performing and that chick from Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus will be there too. But irregardless to all that, who is going home tonight and will the save be used. It's too close to call over on Dial Idol this week so I don't really have any idea who will be in the bottom three tonight but I think it will be Anoop, Lil and maybe Kris or Matt. Did you know after Kris' performance of that song from Once, the movie's soundtrack has just made leaps and bounds on the Top Download Charts on iTunes. The power of American Idol is, indeed, in full force.

Allison and Adam are quickly told they are safe. At least, they aren't creating pathetic dramatic suspense by keeping them until the end. It's pretty obvious these two aren't going anywhere any time soon. Anoop is the first to go to the dreaded silver chair which he is all too familiar with. I'm thinking an unfortunate camerman or producer might just get the axe after panning over to Randy yawning when Anoop's performance was being critiqued. Look Randy, you guys brought him back so don't go blaming the ennui that Anoop creates on us, the viewing public!

After the return of Jennifer Hudson to the Idol stage, it's between Kris and Lil. And sure enough, it's Lil in the bottom three. I still maintain that she hasn't shown us what she really has and needs to step it up and fast! Last but not least, it's a showdown between Danny and Matt. This could go either way and I would love to see Danny in the bottom three but I don't think that is ever going to happen. And I am right, Matt is in the bottom.

Ryan just sent Anoop back to the couch. WTF!!!!! This has to be a mistake, right? He can't really be better than Matt??? I was so not expecting this. Wow! Well, I guess it has to be Lil going home but then again she has Vote for the Worst campaigning to keep her and Matt has been in the bottom before. Of course, we won't find out for another twenty minutes or more thanks to Miley Cyrus' performance.

The moment of reckoning is upon us. Will it be Matt or Lil? And Ryan informs us that Matt is going home but apparently the judges have other plans and are going to institute the save. WOW! First, Anoop is pronounced safe and then Simon tells us that Matt is receiving the judges' save. Not sure if producers had a hand in making it look like the judges were not all in agreement with this grandiose gesture but nonetheless, this season's twist is over. I'm not sure I really liked that it was used tonight. Ryan tells us that next week is Disco Week so I can kind of see how the judges might think that Matt will leave a soulful mark on next week's show. Of course, this now means that next Wednesday, two people will be going home. Hopefully, Anoop's time will be over soon.

So as we sit and analyze all of this, we would love to hear what you thought of tonight's eventful show. Were they right to use the save? How was Anoop spared? Should Lil have gone home instead??? So many questions....

American Idol - The Top 7 go to the Cinema

American Idol does movie night and who other to act as mentor than Quentin Tarantino, the master of film soundtracks. This could prove to be a very interesting night. We are still rejoicing over last week's results show that saw Scott leave the competition, once and for all. With any luck, tomorrow night it will be Anoop bidding us adieu. I am also hoping that the show doesn't run over again this week. It's getting very boring that the producers can't control the time of the show. I'm not a Fringe fan, in the least, but I think it sucks that for no legitimate reason whatsoever Idol is running over by more than five minutes each week. Cut the filler out and get to the performances.

Allison brilliantly opens the show with Aerosmith's I Don't Want to Miss A Thing. For the first or perhaps the second time this season, I am going to say this wasn't her best performance. She seemed to be too breathy and just lacking something but still is one of my favorites to win the competition and if for some weird reason, she lands herself at the bottom tomorrow night, the judges will, indeed, save her.

Anoop picks Bryan Adams' Everything Thing I Do, one of the most boring movie theme tunes ever and he does what he does best and delivers yet another forgettable performance. He can sing but there's just nothing about him that makes him stand out in the least.

Adam goes into the vaults and picks Born to Be Wild by Steppenwolf. The boy just does no wrong. I know I rave about him a lot and he's not everyone's cup of tea, but he has the total package. I am just wondering if he would do better if he didn't win the whole competition. Look at Jennifer Hudson, she didn't win and she now has an Oscar.

Matt picks one of my least favorite songs ever, Bryan Adams' Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman. I'm starting to think Bryan should have been the special guest tonight since almost a third of the contestants are opting for his songs. Matt takes to the piano again and it's okay. He seemed to get a bit of his Timberlake take on it but it by no means stands out.

Danny sans glasses this week (not sure if that will help or hurt his image) goes for yet another song aced in sentimentality, Lionel Richie's Endless Love complete with harp accompaniment. It feels more like an endless song than love. He's a good singer and has a personality but this was just boring but I am sure he won't be in any danger tonight.

Kris, who some say could just make it to the final at the Kodak, goes for one of the most obscure song choices that I think I have ever seen on my eight years of watching this show. He picks Falling Slowly by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. The song won the Oscar for Best Song for the film Once. I was not a fan of the film. In fact, I turned it off after about twenty minutes. I am thinking this might hurt him tomorrow night. I guess he did well but not being familiar with the song at all, I have no idea. It seemed to come from the heart and was on pitch but didn't make me sit up and take notice.

Lil closes the show Bette Midler's The Rose. She had the gospel feel to make it her own but her voice just wasn't there tonight and once again lacked that wow factor. I hate to say it but she might be going home.

Our predictions for tomorrow night:

King and Queen of Carpal Tunnel Worthiness remain to be Adam and Allison.

Throw some votes Kris and Matt's ways.

Who will be going home? It's a toss up between Anoop for just being boring and cocky and Lil. She just hasn't found her calling yet and I am afraid it's a little too late but since she has Vote for the Worst behind her, she might just eke by.

ANTM - The Half Way Mark

Why do I keep watching America's Next Top Model? Honestly, these girls are nowhere near ready to be any form of model apart from maybe a glove model and even that would be pushing it, what with their being a right and a left glove to put on.

I usually have a favorite by now but this season is just ludicrous. I know it seems to be a trend to include some form of disabled person on reality shows this season - case in point: Scott on American Idol and Luke over on the Amazing Race but a burn victim on Top Model, what are they thinking??? No, I'm not an uber bitch who thinks that the modeling world has no place for imperfections. Top Chef's Padma Lakshmi is proof that scars do not mean you can't be a successful model. But Tahlia on ANTM was just inane. I would understand if she had a model's body but he girl needs to lose about twenty pounds to even start thinking she might get some jobs. She is photogenic which is a good thing but her utter lack of confidence is irritating. The fact that a few weeks ago, she bitched and moaned that she didn't know if she really wanted to be on the show and then backpeddled when Celia called her out at panel just further showed me that she just has no backbone.

Of the ones who are left, I am not really liking any of them. I liked London at first until she showed off her in your face preaching style. And, does she not know the first thing about being a model. Thy shall not stuff thy face. The girl is seriously packing on the pounds these days and people are talking. I think Celia will go far. Her weird crosseyed look does wig me out a bit but she exudes personal style and the true makings of a high fashion model. I also was backing Allison at first. She has the whole Twiggy thing going on for her but has no idea how to use it which is said because she could go far if she would just stop looking like a deer in the headlights all the time. Natalie is a pretty girl but she needs to get her head out of her own ass and fast. How freaking conceited is she? I hate to admit it but she is the epitome of the type of California girl who gives the rest of us a bad reputation. Fo might just make it to the top three or four. There is something fresh about her look but she needs to quit with the constant tears. Models don't cry! Teyona and Aminat just do nothing for me.

I'm just about ready to give up watching Top Model and with the announcement that next season will be only casting girls 5'7" and under my mind is about 99% made up. It is just the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. Sure Kate Moss is a supermodel and is considered short in the industry but for Tyra to fool thousands of girls into thinking that they are garner even a tenth of Ms. Moss' success is just down right mean.

American Idol - Will there be dancing in the streets

It's results night and per Dial Idol, Kris, is to undeservedly go home tonight with Anoop and Scott behind him. Here's hoping that DI is wrong this week because I have had enough of Anoop aka Cocky Idol and I am beyond over Scott who is on par in the boredom department as Jason Castro from last year.

We sift through all the usual rigmarole ~ Ryan making lame jokes, Ford commercials, the desecration of Kylie Minogue's Can't Get You Out of My Head, which they appeared to be actually singing live this week and it definitely showed who the pros are and who are just filler for the next few weeks.

The first three to face the music are King Adam, Kris and Anoop. Well, no question about it Adam is safe but what about Dial Idol's prediction about Kris (fingers, eyes and toes are crossed that they are wrong) and the answer is SAFE!!! YES!!!! There's hope that Scott may really go home this week!!! Anoop is the first to be led to the silver chairs and rightly so too. I wouldn't be shocked if he goes home tonight instead of the Boring One. I would be content with that.

Rounding out the male contingent, Danny is proclaimed safe, leaving it down to Matt and Scott. I don't get why Matt was ever in the bottom a few weeks ago. He's not really my cup of tea but he's talented and has a certain panache about himself. And Matt is safe and Scott is in the bottom with Anoop. Fan-freaking-tastic!!!!! Looks like I might get my wish after all tonight.

Now Ryan moves over to the girls, Allison is safe. I never doubted that one even though it was most definitely not her strongest performance last night. Lil is in the bottom with the others. I am thinking she won't be down there for much longer but first more commercials and a performance from former contestant Kellie Pickler. I actually really liked Kellie. Sure, she's a total bimbo but it's genuine naivety which makes her palatable.

Lil is sent back to the couch. It's down to my least favorites. Either way, it's a good thing. According to Ryan, the vote was only separated by 30,000 votes and the one going home tonight is..... SCOTT!!!! WOO HOO!!!!! FINALLY!!!!!! Sorry, Scott, you are talented but you just don't have a personality. It's nothing personal. And that had to be his little sister in the audience with the neon green top and glasses. She reminded me of a cross between the evil little twins from The Shining
and Rhoda from The Bad Seed

Well, there you have it. I'm off to go dance in the streets now.

This Just In: Reality TV hits the motherload

I just read the news that Fox gave the greenlight on the most genius reality show ever! In this recession/depression era that we, unfortunately, are going through right now, what better else than a reality show entitled, Someone's Gotta Go. The concept of the show is that there is an employee that everyone in an office dislikes but to make it even better, the office manager will disclose to all of the office how much each person makes and they will then examine and have meetings to determine who is worth their wages and who isn't. I can't wait to hear the tag line for this show. It is scheduled to air some time this summer.

WTF - Fringe, Who Writes This Crap

I am not a big science fiction fan for the most part which is weird because as a kid I was Stars Wars mad! I was only about 5 when it came out and I demanded to see it in the theater at least 4 successful times. I had all the paraphernalia. Damn, my parents for giving it away without asking! So every once in awhile, I will see a show or film of that genre that peaks my interest slightly like Doctor Who but that could also be because David Tennant is gorgeous but I digress.

Fringe, I thought, was going to be one of those shows. I watched the first two episodes and it was laughable to say the very least. The whole hodge podge of every fictional monster in the span of sixty minutes was just too much to swallow. But tonight, I had misplaced the remote and thought since it was its season return, I would give it one last chance.

What a freaking mistake!!! This is tripe at its best!!! Lines like "Don't you know what a penis looks like" in a mad European accent made my skin crawl. The bad writing and acting should result in SAG and WGA revoking these people's union cards. If anyone over at Fox is laid off because of lack of funds, they can blame this show for wasting the company's money.

I gave up watching once I saw the weird vampire looking kid having his head hooked up to some machine, while the crazy scientist jived along to Al Green and that's only because I was jealous. I would love to have some machine right now to eradicate any memory of this garbage.

American Idol - The Top 8 do the 80's

It says something when the oldest contestant this year was born in 1980. I have shoes older than that!!!! This week's theme on our beloved, American Idol, is for the top 8 to sing a song from the year they are born, thus, it's 80's night for the most part. Woo hoo!!!

First up, Danny with Ben E. King's Stand By Me. I hate when contestants do this. This is not a song from the year you were born, Mr. Gokey. Sure it happened to be covered in 1980 but I think that shouldn't be allowed and was a cop out. If I didn't already dislike him, I most definitely would after tonight. I must have done something to the volume because I certainly didn't hear what the judges did. He was AWFUL!!! The first part of that song, I swear he was singing through his nose. I, daresay, he will be safe tomorrow night but that's just because Scott and Anoop are still in the competition.

Kris, born in 1985, chooses Don Henley's All She Wants to Do is Dance. Interesting choice. He opts to do his performance on a small stage surrounded by adoring fans, which wasn't too wise because you can hardly see him stand out of the crowd. Unfortunately, he sucks. I don't know whether to blame the weird arrangement or just his lack of charisma. He's still cute though so that might just save him but seriously, if Kris and Danny are any indication of how the rest of the show is going to go, this is going to be a major train wreck!

Lil Rounds picks from 1984 Tina Turner's What's Love Got to do With It. She had better bring it but I am not holding my breath. The girl can sing but just doesn't wow me enough like Fantasia did all those seasons ago. It feels more like one of those tribute shows you would see in Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Note to contestants, any time Paula says you look good, you know she didn't like your performance.

Anoop goes with a crowd favorite (not one of mine though) from 1986 with Cyndi Lauper's True Colors another boring song choice from him. Can someone remind me why the judges brought him back during the early rounds???? He's absolutely dull!!!! He has to be in the bottom two tomorrow night.

Scott for once is not behind a piano this week but behind a guitar!!! He takes on 1985's The Search is Over by Survivor. I can't say I remember this song at all. Apart from Eye of the Tiger, I can't name another Survivor song. It's cringe worthy to say the very least!!! His little rocker moves are hysterically bad and that attempt at a high note was pathetic. I think the moment I have been waiting for has finally come and we will be MacIntyre free next week and after that asinine comment about being in his punk rock mode, he has to go tomorrow.

Allison who was only just born in 1992 (1992?!?!? I feel so old all of a sudden) makes the brilliant decision to take on Bonnie Raitt's I Can't Make you Love Me. Sure, it's a bit old for this young little thing to be singing but she nails it with ease. I will say this wasn't her best performance but as of right now she is hands down the best of the night. And can I just say, I absolutely loved that skirt!!! If anyone knows where to get it, let me know.

Another 1985 baby, Matt, chooses what should be the perfect song choice for himself, Stevie Wonder's Part Time Lover. I never liked this song but I think he will do it justice and I would be correct in assuming this. Another Justin Timberlake inspired performance but he has the whole package and I think he needed this performance to regain some of his fanbase. Good job, Matt.

Adam, who had so many brilliant songs to choose from especially since he was born in 1982 goes with a very interesting song choice, Tears for Fears' Mad World. This song found fame especially in the UK when it was covered by Jules in 2002. As you can tell, I love this song and it has profound meaning for me so I might be a little biased but this absolutely genius!!! My boy has to win this competition. Adam, I once again proclaim you King of Carpal Tunnel!!! Speechless....

American Idol - Whose time is up

Well, last night's show was a bit ho hum. The usual suspects sucked and should be in the bottom three tonight while the good ones remained at the top despite the judges fashion critique of Allison which was completely uncalled for. Tonight we have performances from David Cook and Lady Gaga. I hear that Scott's favorite thing of the show is filming the stupid Ford commercial. Please count this as reason 827 for why he should have been kicked off of the show weeks ago! What a wanker!!!!

After what must have been an eternity for the live viewers out there, the contestants are split into three groups and it looks at least to me that one in each group will be in the bottom three. Per Dial Idol, it should be Megan, Anoop and Allison with Megan going home. Let's see if they are right. The first group to be called are Megan, Kris and Matt. Easy it has to be Megan. The next are Adam, Lil and Allison. OK out of the group I would pick Lil because she is just not wowing me enough. The last trio to be called are Anoop, Scott and Danny. Tough call between Scott and Anoop but I am going to say Mr. Cocky Idol will be the one called.

Well, after David Cook performs we finally find out that Megan is, indeed, in the bottom three and takes it all with a grain of salt but there was absolutely no need to do that chicken dance of yours. Next, Allison is brought into the bottom. I still maintain that this is part of the producers' plot to use the save if it happens tonight. And finally, Anoop is brought down. Turns out Dial Idol was right. Of course, we need to wade through Lady Gaga's performance to find out who is going home and it's Megan! Simon even says straight off the bat that they aren't even going to consider using the save tonight. She takes it for what it's worth and goes all out with her swan song.

So are you happy that the tattooed one is finally gone??? Who would you have rather seen?? Be prepared for 80's week next week as the theme is songs from the year you were born. Cue the spandex, neon and big hair!

American Idol Top 9 - What kind of theme is that!

Tuesday night means just one thing in my house, another look at the remaining contestants on American Idol. But what the hell kind of theme is "Top Downloads." Sure, we get that the show is in cahoots with iTunes but do we need any more advertising on this already product placement fueled talent competition?? I haven't listened to the radio for years thanks to an addiction to my iPod (note product placement) so I have no idea what the Top 9 will pick this week or how it will go and more importantly if I will even recognize the songs but it hopefully will make for an interesting night.

Anoop opens the show with Usher's Caught Up. Don't know the song at all and I'm thinking I am not going to remember this performance come mid-show apart from the fact it was pretty wretched and he should have kept his ego at the door. If there was a Most Cocky Idol, Anoop would be a shoo in. Seriously, he's not even remotely close to being that good to have that type of attitude. I'm putting him right after Scott for who should go home tomorrow and that's without even having to be tortured by whatever song Scott will undoubtedly be singing at the piano. If this is any indication of the night ahead of us, it's going to be a long show.

I'm not thinking Megan made the wisest decision with her choice of Bob Marley's Turn Your Lights Down Low ala Lauryn Hill but we will give her a chance. Yup, it's bad. I just wanted to strangle her with that dangling braid that was just hanging on the side of her face. That cute quirkiness is just gone for me. It sounded like she was just talking the song. Horrific to say the very least but I will say that I would still rather see Anoop and Scott go before this train wreck. So help Vote for the Worst and their campaign to keep her because there are more unworthy contestants still left. Plus, was it just me or did she look like she knows she sucks but thinks she has no chance of going home yet?

Saint Danny floats to stage. Sure, he's overcome tragedy after tragedy what with his wife and his grandfather both passing away but enough with the pity and sympathy getting and it even effects his song choice, which this week is Rascal Flatts' What Hurts the Most. I'm thinking no matter what he does he will be make it through. He is talented. It's just his wholesomeness that irks the crap out of me. I do agree with Simon that Danny needs to stay at the mic stand. Please no more of the bad white boy dancing, please!

My girl, Allison, chooses to pay tribute to her local band, No Doubt with Don't Speak. Can the girl do no wrong? Even down to the outfit which was a mix of Gwen Stefani and Lily Allen and unlike Miley Cyrus, she still looks like she's sixteen. She could have given a little more fierceness with the song but she still is by far the best of the night for me. And Randy should not be giving fashion advice. Did you see him in that knit cardigan?? Not to mention when he used to perform with Journey in spandex!!!! And besides, this is a competition based on talent not fashion.

Snooze fest Scott continues his boring litany of singing at the piano and to none other than the original piano man, Billy Joel. But did he pick something fun, oh no, Scott went with the sobering Just the Way You Are. It's all over the place. Please let this be the end of the line for him. This was just safe and dull but apparently my hearing is impaired because the judges loved it. The producers this year seem to be coaching the judges very blatantly. Like tonight, they didn't like Allison, namely because she's sixteen and dressed the part of an emerging teen pop/rock star, and now they defend the seeing impaired guy despite the fact that this was so boring that I tuned it out all together despite watching the screen the whole time. I think it's all setting us up for them to use the save. You know it's going to happen sooner or later. But I just don't get the fascination with Scott who has already released six self-produced CD's and has had numerous appearances on television already! He really is the Jason Castro of the season.

Matt opens weakly with his take of The Fray's You Found Me, which I am not familiar with in the least. He just doesn't sound as good as during past shows. I really think he should stick with the Justin Timberlake type songs. Keyboardists really have no place doing rock n roll songs. It wasn't horrid enough for me to think that he will end up in the bottom three with Anoop, Scott and Megan but after last week, who knows.

Lil Rounds goes with one of my least favorite people in the world, Celine Dion's I Surrender. She looks great but I am bored with the song. She could have picked so many other great artists such as Mary J Blige or Beyonce but she goes with a contemporary adult power ballad which she does a good job with, but once again, her performance is just not wow enough. I do think we should all keep in mind that yes, Lil is picking mature songs and is still only in her 20's but this woman has gone through a lot in her short life - she's a mom who has survived Hurrican Katrina, that I will let it all slide but I do want to see a little more spunk from her.

Adam finally gets onstage and rocks it with Wild Cherry's Play That Funky Music. I just love him! He rocks the Elvis look again and he has that perfect scratchiness to his voice like Axel Rose from Guns N Roses. He's a showman and can sing. Bring on the carpal tunnel because Adam is the king of the night! I know I can't be the only one to have heard that idiot, Kara, say it was very reminsiscent of Studio "57!" Oy vay!

Kris closes the show and takes to the piano with Bill Withers' Ain't No Sunshine and I was very happy to hear that after the first verse he kicked it up a notch. I liked it but I don't think I am going to remember his performance which is the problem with Kris. He's talented, good looking but just not that memorable but this was a really good performance for him and he will be proclaimed safe tomorrow night. Let's just hope he doesn't accidentally start walking towards center stage like he did last week. He needs to find some confidence.

American Idol - Who went home

It's result night over on Idol when we fast forward through the group lip sync, ego boosting introductions, dramatic pauses and all that other nonsense and finally get a glimpse at who is going to be singing for their lives tonight. If things go as expected, the judge's save won't be used but stranger things have happened and it just occurred to me that there are only three female contestants left and with Vote for the Worst campaigning to keep Megan on the show, the bottom 3 tonight could be very interesting. Thus, without further ado, let's see how it all played out.

My boy, Adam, is first to stand and is promptly told to sit right down. Matt is next and I'm thinking will be asked to be seated but no, Ryan says he's in the bottom three which is just bullshiz! Did America go deaf this week???? I don't get it!!!!! Kris is next and is proclaimed safe but still makes a move to center stage by accident. Mind you, I can't tell you what he sang last night but I remember it wasn't horrid.

Michael and Lil are pitted against each other. I won't be surprised at either being in the bottom three after Matt. I thought Lil was fantastic but I have heard quite a few people who thought she wasn't that great and Michael, well, I did say yesterday that he picked far too big of a song that was not suited for him. Ryan welcomes Michael down to the dreaded silver chairs along with Matt. All I have to say is Scott had better being joining them!

Allison is next after the Joss Stone and Smokey Robinson duet. No worries there the fiery redhead is safe. Hardly, a shocker. Anoop is next and is also safe. Good old wholesome Danny is up next with his cocky little retorts to Simon and he'll be back. Fine, I get it but I still don't like him. Now, it's between the worst two from last night, Scott and Megan. Scott is led by Ryan to complete the trinity of silver chairs. Megan looked stunned so at least she's in touch with reality.

Randy seems to be pissed off about Matt being in the bottom three andrightly so too. Ryan finally announces who is safe and Scott is sent back to the couch!!! WTF!!!!! If today had been April's Fool I might just have been amused by this but this just sucks! If Matt, is indeed the one I think there is a good chance that the judges will save him. If it's Michael, it will be the end of the road which I thought would be next week or shortly thereafter.

The show is prolonged by a surprise performance by Stevie Wonder. I'm starting to think this is a subliminal attempt to garner Scott more votes. Finally, Michael is revealed to be the one singing for survival and frankly, I think that the judges don't even need him to sing one last time but I must say he did sound better tonight. No save used and Michael is going home to his little girl.

I'm thinking I might just need to start a campaign of my own to get Scott voted off this show once and for all. Who wants to join me??

American Idol - The Top 10 Who Got Their Groove On

Well, if you are planning on getting tickets to see the American Idol Tour this summer, these are the kids you will paying to see. I'm still a bit annoyed that Alexis went home last week instead of Scott. It just really irks me that the blind guy who has to be planted at a piano is going on the tour instead of little Pinkie. But that's history, and this week is Motown week so let's get this party started.

To get the kids inspired for this week's theme, producers sent them to Detroit where they got to meet Smokey Robinson (does he ever age?) and Berry Gordy and then were brought back to LA where Smokey joined them as their mentor. They are in the best of hands, let's just see who delivers and who butchers these masterpieces.

Matt Giraud kicks off the night with a piano accompaniment to Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On and he nails it. For a dorky white guy, he's got the soul it takes for this classic song and still is reminding us of Justin Timberlake. See you next week, Matt, great job!

Kris Allen, once again, donning his acoustic guitar and still looking cute, opted for How Sweet It Is by Jr. Walker and the All Stars. It's kind of theme park-ish if that makes sense. Safe, clean and not too memorable but one of his better performances. Not sure how he will fare tonight though. I think he will be safe with the pre-teen girl vote.

Scott "Bore Me" MacIntyre is up next and once again tickling the ivories. It's just really annoying me that he keeps using the piano crutch. They seriously can't just have him at the piano during the whole tour, can they? I know I keep harping on about it, but it's annoying the crap out of me. He makes yet another bad song choice with The Supremes' You Can't Hurry Love. Absolutely HORRIBLE!!!! Sure, the guy is blind and, obviously, talented but he has just zero personality! Why didn't he get kicked off last week? With any luck, tonight will be the end of the line for him.

Megan Corkrey, who I have kind of liked for her quirkiness alone, chooses Stevie Wonder's For Once in My Life and it is a train wreck. She tried to make it more jazzy but it's just not translating well. Her voice isn't strong enough at all and it sounded very flat. And will she stop with her weird little chicken dance! She most certainly will be joining Scott in the center of the stage tomorrow night. The only thing that could save her is Vote for the Worst's campaign to save her. Remember it has worked for the likes of Scott Savol back in Season 4 and of course, Sanjaya in Season 6 and last year's Kristy Lee Cook and Jason Castro.

Anoop Desai, another one who does not deserve to still be on the show in my opinion, takes on The Miracles' Ooh Baby Baby. Sure he's got personalityand can sing but he's in no way a pop star. His performance is safe and really unoffensive but why is he still wearing that Members Only jacket. I know 80's fashion is back in style but that was never a good look for anyone. Anoop will live to see another day but he needs to somehow find within himself some star quality and that's not something you can just learn.

Michael Sarvers takes on The Temptations' Ain't Too Proud to Beg. It's way too big of a song for him and it feels more cabaret to me than anything. It's lacking that soul that Matt had. Considering how Scott and Megan performed, I think Michael will eek by. I would have liked to have seen him do the Rolling Stones' version of this song, which would have been a more interesting rendition for him to attempt. With any luck Middle America will take to the phone lines and keep oil rig guy in for at least one more week.

Finally, someone we can count on to do an awesome job. Lil Rounds picks the perfect song with Martha and the Vandella's Heatwave. It fits her voice and personality to a tee. The girl just has the it factor. Sure, she's got some major junk going on in her trunk but who cares when she has soul and talent. She just makes it all look so easy. Fantastic job and I am proud to say Lil is the first one joining the carpal tunnel worthy club this week. And just when I thought that my hearing was on the mend, the judges aren't giving her the glowing review that I expected. I get what they are saying in that it wasn't "stop everything wow" but it was by far, the best so far tonight.

Adam Lambert goes for an unplugged version of The Miracles' Tracks of my Tears and gets dolled up for the night as well and looks like a young Elvis. The boy nails it again! Like Lil, he just makes it look so effortless. He really could have done a rocker version of this but his choice of acoustic was brilliant. Adam, once again, you are worthy of carpal tunnel. See you next week and I still maintain he will make it to the finals!

Danny Gokey is up. I am just going to say that he bugs me. I don't know if it's the stupid white guy dances he does, but there's just something about him that irritates me which sucks because he can sing. He does a good job with The Temptations' Get Ready and we will be seeing him for a while longer. I don't have much more to say on the matter.

My favorite since day one, Allison Iraheta closes the show with The Temptations' Papa was a Rolling Stone. Amazing as I have come to expect. The girl has the whole package and wouldn't it be nice to have an edgy winner for a change. I still can't believe this little girl has this much soul at such a young age. Tonight I am proclaiming Allison - Queen of Carpal Tunnel!!!

Who is worthy of carpal tunnel this week? Hands down ~ Allison, Adam and Lil Rounds.

Who is going to go home tomorrow - I hate to say it but Megan, it's time, even though I'd prefer to see Scott out of the competition once and for all. He's just so boring and lackluster! So let's hope that VTFW's fanbase listen and keep Megan around for one more week so we can get rid of piano boy.

Who should you throw some votes at? Michael, he wasn't as bad as those other two and deserves one more week.

The Chopping Block - Is it worth a nibble?

I have had a long standing addiction to anything culinary on TV. As a kid, it was all about Julia Child. Then as a preteen, I discovered Jeff Smith aka the Frugal Gourmet and Justin Wilson with his catchphrase "I gar-on-tee!". As a teen, every Saturday morning was spent watching Yan Can Cook and his machine like chopping skills. Then Food Network was born and I thought I died and went to heaven. Finally, the mysteries of Iron Chef were revealed to me after years of watching sans subtitles. I would even curl up in the fetal position when they ran old episodes of the Galloping Gourmet. So when my love of reality TV and cooking shows became one, I was besides myself. But now there is a new breed of cooking reality TV that has hit the screens and I am not that sure I am loving it.

First, the Brits brought us Last Restaurant Standing. The concept is clever. Take one of the most esteemed French chefs of the world, add in some eager wannabe restaurateurs, and put them in the oven, you would think a lovely souffle would appear but sadly, all we seem to get is a flat lump of blah. Although I love Raymond Blanc, I find the show to be tedious with one week everyone competing against each other and the next deciding who should go home. The contestants themselves are just dreadfully boring and really have no idea what they are letting themselves in for much like my pet peeve with Hell's Kitchen. Seriously, a short order cook can find themselves becoming "executive chef" of one of Gordon Ramsay's restaurants??? It's just not right!

So it was with some apprehension that I opted to sample NBC's The Chopping Block. It seems to have all the right ingredients: world renowned chef with an attitude, eager contestants looking to open their own restaurant and to mix it up a bit, the judge for each challenge is a mystery guest. Sounds brilliant. Think part Last Restaurant Standing and part Top Chef's popular Restaurant Wars and that's what the Chopping Block is trying to create but much like communism, this concept looks great on paper but it doesn't translate too well in practice. I like Marco Pierre White. He's a more subdued Gordon and lest we forget he did make Mr. Ramsay cry. And I love the idea of the mystery judge but once again it's the contestants who ruin it all for me. They just have zero personality apart from uber bitchy Angela and the worst thing about them much like the girls on America's Next Top Model who can't name a single current supermodel, this idiots didn't even recognize esteemed food critic, Jeffrey Steingarten. Obviously they have never watched him on Iron Chef America or picked up a copy of Vogue. Things like this piss me off. These people don't really want it. They can't even be bothered to familiarize themselves with the big names in the field.

Will I continue to feast on this show? Yeah, I will keep nibbling just to see if the next course gets any better but I'm not sure we are going to be getting an invite for dinner next season though as I think this will be it for Marco and his lot. American Idol - Who won't be on the tour this summer?

Well, last night was just kind eh. There weren't any major train wrecks and there were any amazing performances either. Randy Travis was okay even though he sounded like an old fart when he claimed to have never seen a man wear nail polish before. Tonight, of course, is the hour long results show courtesy of my DVR so I don't have to be witness to the group medley or Ford commercial. After all, I wouldn't want my dinner coming up. We have special guests, Randy Travis, Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley to help round out the evening.

So, let's see who stayed and who went. After the usual drawn out recap of last night's show, the horrific group medley, four minute commercial break, the dreaded Ford commercial which involved a water balloon fight (they really are scraping the barrel this week and don't even ask me what they were singing because I have no clue what it was), Ryan draws out the segment even farther by reminding us of the Idol contest to win a trip to the finale which is then followed by a montage detailing what it's like when a contestant is voted off the show. Will he get to it already??? Now, he's asking them questions and we hear Michael's sob story that his daughter thinks he doesn't love her any more. I just realized that this season there are quite a few parents on the show: Michael, Megan, Alexis, Lil Rounds. That should make for quite a packed tour bus what with all the kids in tow.

Finally after 18 minutes, Danny is the first one to join the summer tour. Lil is up next and she's packing her bags for the tour too. Anoop redeemed himself and now we can all go and see him being awkward on the road, he's safe. It's between Michael and my girl, Allison. Hmmm.... I have a bad feeling that my girl might just be in danger. And I am right. I knew middle America come through for Michael. I still think Allison is safe though. She's just too damn talented to go home yet. Wait, Ryan throws us a curveball and Michael is also in the bottom 3. WTF????

After 5 minutes of commercials with which to reflect on the news that Allison and Michael are up for possible elimination, we find out that Scott is safe. Are you curious like I am to see how Scott is going to fare with any dance routines they might give him? They can't just keep him behind the piano all of the time, can they? OK, Ryan tells Megan that she is safe. Matt is safe also. Kris is safe???? WTH!!! I just don't get it!!!!

My boy Adam is pitted against Alexis. I am thinking Adam will be in the bottom 3 because America is not quite ready for an American Idol who is a bit different and edgy but I also thought that Alexis' performance last night wasn't that great so I'm not sure how this is going to pan out. It's Pinkie. My boy is safe but still I am not getting tonight's bottom 3. It should have been Scott, Kris and maybe Michael with Scott going home. WHEW! Allison is sent back to the sofa and has made the tour. That just leaves Michael and Alexis. Tough call really. Of course, we now have to wait another 20 minutes to find out the answer.

Following Carrie and Randy's duet, Ryan asks the judges if they have considered saving either Alexis or Michael and Simon says that they have had that conversation and that there is a possibility it could be done tonight. Of course with seven minutes left to go, they break for yet more commercials. It really is out of control and should be a thirty minute show instead of 25 minutes of commercials with some smattering of results. The moment finally arrives and it's Alexis going home! I am speechless. I was sure she was going to be in it for a lot longer. Now it's up to her to sing her heart out and prove to the judges that they should save her tonight as they have already discussed. Unfortunately, you can see and hear the panic in her voice. I hate to say it but I think she just lost her chance at an appeal and I am right. The judges were unanimous and they are keeping their pass for another week.

I guess all of those stories floating around the internet about the show being fixed were wrong as they had Alexis staying until the final 4.

American Idol - The Top 11

There are weeks during American Idol where even I question my sanity. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate country music just like the next person but why do we have to have an entire night from the Grand Ole Opry??? Sure, I understand that we need to see how all of the contestants handle all genres of music and of course, tomorrow night's special guest is former Idol winner, Carrie Underwood who has proven a huge success, so it makes sense. I think it would have been a cooler idea to have done an Irish theme night in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Can you imagine the group medley consisting of U2 and The Pogues with all of the contestants dressed as leprechauns???

So, let's get this knee slappin' hoedown started!

Well, it looks like we are going back to Idol seasons of yore with this week's addition of Randy Travis acting as mentor. I am already positive that he will expound that this season is the best so far. It's been said ad nauseum every season so why not.

Let me just say that I am not familiar with most of these songs so I am calling them as I see it. Can I also say I am just not digging Kara at all. She just looks so plastic and like Randy, she tends to have the same critiques of people. I'm hoping she's not brought back next season. Hell, I would rather see Brian Dunkleman back on the show than have to see this chick.

Good ole boy, Michael Sarver, kicks off the night with Garth Brooks' Ain't Goin' Down til the Sun Comes Up. No matter how his performance goes, I think he will be safe. He's just what middle America needs - a blue collar worker with a family who can sing. Not a very good song choice for him. Far too wordy and doesn't show off his voice to its best ability but I think we have found his niche. I still maintain he will be safe despite the judges critiques. Not sure that Michael should have thrown in the cocky retort after the judges were done but the audience loves it so I'm not thinking he will suffer from it.

My girl, Alison Iraheta, is up next with another unknown for me, Patty Loveless' Blame It On Your Heart. She's AMAZING as I have come to expect. It just blows my mind that she's only sixteen! A definite safe bet for tomorrow night.

Kris Allen is up next with Garth Brooks' To Make You Feel My Love. Boring is all I can say. I know by the end of the show I will have no memory of his performance in the least. It was just uneventful. He can sing but provided us with nothing that caused me to take notice. I still think he has the face to get the votes but needs to develop some star quality. Turns out, my hearing must be to blame because the judges liked it a lot. I just don't get it in the least but what do I know.

Lil Rounds opted for Martina McBride's Independence Day. You can tell she's uncomfortable with this genre but, damn, the girl can sing and still show her personality regardless of the theme. I didn't like that Randy suggested that she should have opted for Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You. Sure, it would have been the perfect safe and easy song choice for her but then they would have said that she was just taking the easy way out. Damned if you, damned if you don't but I still think she has nothing to worry about tonight.

When I hear Randy Travis say that he's nervous about Adam Lambert's Middle Eastern twist of Johnny Cash's iconic Ring of Fire, I am worried. Yet, as soon as he gets going, I am liking it - a lot! He totally gothed it up and made it most definitely his own but is America ready for an artsy Idol. Sadly, I think he might find himself in the bottom tomorrow night but he's getting my votes and as of right now, is this week's pick for causing me carpal tunnel!

Scott MacIntyre gets behind the piano yet again. I'm definitely thinking this is his crutch. When Randy Travis hears that Scott picked Wild Angels by Martina McBride. he even says this doesn't soung like a good idea. Another boring performance. Yes, Scott is talented what with being blind and being able to play the piano and sing but it's just so safe and clean. As Randy will more than likely say, "Dawg, you were pitchy in places," and I'd have to agree. Not sure how Scott will fare tomorrow night but I won't be voting for him. However, I do think he will get the pity vote because who honestly wants to vote out the blind guy but seriously, everyone needs to treat Scott just like every other contestant regardless of disability.

Alexis Grace is up next and Pinkie wisely picks Dolly Parton's Jolene. I just noticed that she is a bit of a lollipop head. She's damn skinny and the poofed hair makes her head look disproportionate but I digress. She does a decent job with the song but nothing wow about it which was a bit disappointing after last week's Dirty Diana but we have seen worse tonight so I think she can rest easy tonight.

Danny Gokey once again pulled at the heart strings with his choice of Carrie Underwood's Jesus Take the Wheel. It was a bit much for him to pick that song since he has said that he wants to move away from having his recently departed wife being brought up. It wasn't a great performance. The beginning was marred with nerves and some pitch problems but he can belt it out. Another one who can sleep well tonight.

Anoop Desai goes big this week with the iconic You Were Always On My Mind courtesy of Willie Nelson. I hate to admit it but it wasn't half bad considering I was expecting a complete train wreck. I still don't see what the fuss is about Anoop but I think he will be back next week.

Megan Corkery's choice of Patsy Cline's Walkin' After Midnight and Randy Travis calls it unique. After last week, I think we can expect that. I'm liking it and I don't think it will hurt her that she picked a cleavage plunging dress tonight but the girl has to stop moving. Definitely some notes that sounded off to me but I'm not hating it.

Matt Giraud proved once again that he has that Justin Timberlake vibe about him when he went with a risky choice of So Small from Carrie Underwood. He's definitely safe tonight.

My predictions:

Worthy of Carpal Tunnel - Adam!!!! I just loved the whole goth rendition!!!! Allison is also among the texting worthy

Bottom of the Pile - Sorry, Mike TV, but I have to go with Kris. He has the looks and can sing but just needs to find a personality! And Scott was just blah tonight.

American Idol Top 13 - Who got the boot?

Unlike any results show on American Idol, this recap will be straight to the point with no commercial breaks.

The first proper results show of the season was filled with the ubiquitous trainwreck that is the group number, (a medley of Michael Jackson songs) product placement (Fox are such Coke pushers) and what is becoming a trend this season of American Idol, another new twist. Basically, the twist is that the judges now have the power to save a contestant. Each week, they will have the booted contestant(s) sing one last time and will then debate amongst themselves whether they should stay or go. The vote must be unanimous and can only be used once prior to the Top 5. I like it! Let's face it there's not too many astonishing contestants this year so this will prohibit any form of Sanjaya/Jason Castro effect from taking over. If the judges do save someone, no one will go home that night but two will be eliminated at the next results show. We are also informed that next week two people will be going home, which makes me think that the "save a contestant" option will be used most definitely.

The following are immediately declared safe: Michael Sarver (didn't I predict that) and my girl Allison. Jasmine is called to center stage and is not safe tonight. I get it. Matt was another one of my safe bets that proved successful. Ryan then calls Kris and instantly he thought he was next to be declared unsafe. Did you see how he took a step forward? And rightly so, too! Megan is then called out and told that she's unsafe. So it's between Jasmine and Megan for the first one to receive the boot. Tough call really, sure Megan's performance last night was awkward to say the least but she does have the backing of VFTW so I could see her making it through to next week. Jasmine did redeem herself but still didn't give it her all. After the usual four minute commercial break, after all it is an hour show, we learn that Jasmine is out. She sings for the judges one more time and they huddle and come to the conclusion that it's the end of the road for her tonight.

Special guest Kanye West hits the stage. Not much of a fan so I just forward through.

Back to the results, the following can remain on the couch: Scott, Alexis, Danny. No shockers there. Anoop doesn't even have Ryan read his cue card and heads straight to center stage. At least, he's realistic. Adam is up and is told to sit right back down. So, now it's down to Jorge and Lil Rounds. I guess the producers didn't bother with any dramatic suspense there. Jorge joins Anoop. Tough call really, they both should be going home.

Of course, since there are almost 20 minutes left remaining until the end of the show, next up must be the other special guest, the original American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson. Wow, when did she pack on the pounds? Too bad Celebrity Fit Club isn't still on the air, she would be perfect for it.

After what is hopefully the last commercial break of the night, Ryan is back to hand in the verdict. Well, it's adios to you, Jorge, back to Puerto Rico you go.

American Idol The Top 13 - Who's worthy of carpal tunnel this week?

I will admit it I was once a Michael Jackson fan. Seriously, isn't everyone deep down? I even got to see him on the Victory tour as a kid and yes, I had not only a red sequined glove but also the heels to match. So, it is with extreme trepidation, that I am watching American Idol's Top 13 tackle Wacko Jacko's catalog tonight. I wonder which of the guys will be brave enough to do the Michael Crotch Grab??? I know Sanjaya would if he was up there.

Before we get to the show, can I just say this whole Top 13 thing is bugging the hell out of me? All I can think of is that not only were producers looking for a "surprise twist" this season for ratings but that, so far, the contestants have been so dull that they just couldn't choose who to allow to continue on the quest for pop stardom. And did you hear about the "sex scandal?" Turns out since they have never had the need for a 13th voting number thus the usual prefix 855-IDOLS13, dials you into a sex line. Let's just hope that the voice on the other end isn't Paula and Kara in a threesome with Randy. I shudder to even think what that would sound like! So if you are hitting the phone lines, it's 36 not 13. Everyone all together now, 866-IDOLS 3-6!

So, without any further nonsense, I bring you the Top 13.

Before anyone hits the stage, Simon informs us that that two people are going home tomorrow night thus the Top 13 will shrink down to the Top 11 like it should be for the second week of live shows. I like to see someone had sense. What I am not liking this week is the personal story footage!! I don't want to hear you have three kids, lost your home, can't see, lost your wife. Sure all very tragic but this is about singing not who has the more moving story. Unless there is some revealing shocking secret that we learn from these stories, I will not be reviewing, recapping or acknowledging this part of the show in the least.

Now that I have gotten that off my chest, Lil Rounds kicks off Michael Jackson night with The Way You Make Me Feel. She nails it effortlessly. I'm liking it and I will be bold enough to say Lil will be hanging around for quite a while to come.

Scott McIntyre takes his place behind the piano for his version of Keep the Faith. I have never heard of this song so I can't tell you if it was good, bad or just blah. If I remember from Hollywood week, Scott performed better when seated at the ivories so I think this is going to be a trend with him. It's not horrible but it's not that memorable in the least, apart from his high pitched squeals towards the end, which make me think that next week we might learn that he is a member of that ultra rare singing group known as the Castrati. I'm thinking Scott won't be moving off the couch tomorrow night.

Crowd favorite, Danny Okey, is up next with PYT. I really hated the intro to the song and was dreading it until he moved into the true tone of the song. The boy can sing but he just proved white boys in horn-rimmed glasses can and should not under any circumstance ~ dance! I felt uncomfortable watching it but he does have the voice. Another safe bet for the night.

Michael Sarver opts for You Are Not Alone. He has a great voice but just no "it" factor in the least. I do, however, think that middle America will love him. So, Michael, I proclaim you safe this week.

Jasmine Murray picks I'll Be There. I'm thinking she picked such a big song to help redeem her last performance. It's good, not wow, but good enough to see her through to next week, that's for sure.

Kris Allen chooses Remember the Time. As he sang I just kept thinking to myself that I don't remember him. He has the looks to make it through but the voice not so much. I'm thinking he might be in danger tomorrow night, however, it appears that this is the moment of the show where apparently my hearing isn't quite working as the judges liked it.

My girl, Allison Iraheta, is up next and I'm hoping my hearing has returned to normal as she takes on Give In To Me, not a song I am familiar with but she's working her magic. Bring on the carpal tunnel!!! She will be at the final at the Kodak without a doubt! AMAZING!

Anoop Desai, why is he here? I just don't get it at all. To make matters worse he picks Beat It. I really don't think I can watch this. Did he have to wear the Members Only jacket? At least he didn't opt for the red leather one. The boy's voice isn't horrid apart from the odd note but I just don't see him being a star and frankly felt like he was in his living room singing along to Rock Band. See you in that bottom 3 tomorrow night, my friend.

Jorge Nunez' decided to go with Never Can Say Goodbye. Well, I can. This was a snooze fest and what was with those stares into the camera. Another one for the bottom 3, tomorrow night.

Megan Corkrey, who has been one of my other early kind of favorites, surprises me by picking Rockin' Robin. I just would have never thought of that song for her but I am feeling like I should be at a wedding or in a bar. Vote for the Worst is backing her. I wouldn't say she was the worst of the evening but certainly not what I had hoped for. I hate to say it but she could be joining the likes of Jorge and Anoop tomorrow night.

Adam Lambert is up with Black or White. He's just such the professional. Perfect song choice, great styling, moves that prove that some white boys can move around on a stage without making an ass of themselves. Get those fingers ready for some carpal tunnel action. I'm seeing an Allison-Adam finale!

Matt Giraud picks the smart song choice, Human Nature. I hadn't notice before how much he looks like Justin Timberlake. I think he will be here for awhile. A very redeemful performance for him tonight

Alexis Grace aka Pinkie chooses perfectly with one of my personal favorites, Dirty Diana. I'm thinking I will definitely need to get the ice packs ready because after tonight's text votes, I am going to need them! She's not as good as Allison but definitely up in my top 3 for the night.

American Idol - Rounding out the Top 12, sorry Top 13

Finally the night I have been waiting for is here - the Wild Card round. I love that they just got right into the show. No horrid lipsynched group number! So let's see how they do. For the record, I am rooting for Jesse Langseth and Megan to kick up the estrogen levels of the finalists since we only have 3 females in the finals so far and I predict that Anoop is a shoo in. So on with the show.

Jesse is up first and I thought she nailed it with her rendition of Rufus' Tell Me Something Good. That's my girl! I think she might just get in!

Matt Giraud is up next and I didn't remember him at all when he took to the stage and was ready to dismiss him but I was very impressed with his take on the Jackson 5's Who's Loving You. I could see him making it to the finals.

My girl, Megan picked the brilliant song choice of KT Tunstall's Black Horse and the Cherry Tree. I absolutely loved it. Was it flawless? No, but she has all the makings for a future in this biz and if she cracks that top 12, she will be receiving many a text vote from me if she keeps doing her thing like she did tonight.

Von Smith is up next and was singing "what can I do to make you love me" and all I can think is stop singing for starters! And if that wasn't bad enough, he looked like he was constipated throughout the performance. As you can tell, I don't think his version of Elton John's Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word was good. See you, Von.

Jasmine Murray joins in with what is way too big of a song choice for her, Christina Aguilera's Reflection. I'm really not too sure why she was picked for the Wild Card round since her last performance was lackluster and she definitely didn't do herself any favors tonight.

Rick Braddy is back and must have thought he was performing at a wedding with his rendition of Stevie Wonder's Superstitous. This was so not good but apparently it's that old hearing problem that I seem to be developing if I am to listen to new judge Kara, who, by the way, I really don't care for, gush over this kid. I just don't see what Kara is exactly adding to the show. I never thought I would actually be a self-admitted Team Paula member but it turns out I am.

Tatiana del Toro is back and once again shocks us with the fact that despite she's barking mad, the girl can freaking sing. Not many people can tackle Whitney Houston's Saving All My Love and nail it as easily as she did. But as Paula and Simon point out, this is the third time she has performed it for them. Do I think producers added her to this round just for ratings? Absolutely. Did she deserve to come back based on talent? Yes. Will she make it through? No!

Oh no, Anoop Desai opts for Bobby Brown's My Perogative. This could be very uncomfortable to watch to say the least. Sure, he's having fun but I'm not loving it. I do think that the judges will put him through because they have loved him from the beginning and he was robbed during that first round and as some have insanely suggested he could ride the Slumdog Millionaire streak solely based on his ethnicity. I won't be too upset if he gets through to the finals though.

So who did the judges pick?

Jasmine Murray - WTF?!?!? I just don't get it apart from they think they can maybe model her to be a less talented version of Idol success story, Jennifer Hudson. I am not a happy camper to say the least.

OK, my mood was just lifted with not only Tatiana's tearful breakdown but the addition of my girl, Megan to the top 12!!!! WOO HOO!

Rounding out the top 12, Matt Giraud. I kind of saw this coming since he did kind of redeem himself this week a bit but I would surmise that he was picked more for his market ability than anything else. At least, it wasn't Rick Braddy who I thought they were going to go with.

And then they throw the curve ball that this year they are going with a top 13!! I was right Anoop proved to be such a favorite with the producers and judges that they changed the rules to accomodate him. This pissed me off since they told Jesse that she was a close runner up. Well then why didn't they just make it a top 14 and add her!!!

So there you have it, folks, our top 13. Who are you rooting for??? Let us know and we will see you next Tuesday for the proper start to this the eighth season of American Idol, chock full of commercial breaks, bad Ford product placements and those horrendous group numbers.

American Idol - The 3rd Dozen

It's Tuesday night which can mean only one thing, American Idol is on! Tonight, we are going to get to see what that last 12 of the original 36 finalists have on offer.

Von Smith kicks off the night and, honestly, I do not remember him in the least from the auditions or Hollywood week. Zero star quality from what I can immediately tell from his interview. He picks Marvin Gaye's You're All I Need and I am waiting for Captain Stubing and Gopher to show up and welcome me to the Love Boat because this guy's future will find him touring the high seas. The judges loved it, even comparing him to Clay Aikien which I didn't get either. Once again, I am reminded to make that appointment to have my hearing checked because I must be listening to someone else massacre Marvin.

OK, one of my biggest gripes with Idol is that they never stick to their word. Remember on day one of Hollywood week, Simon said that anyone who forgot their lyrics would be let go immediately, well, Taylor Vaifanua was one of the many, who flubbed their performance and still was spared the hook. She's up next and tackles Alicia Keyes' If I Got You. For me, it was just blah, no star quality and the voice wasn't that great. Truly, forgettable.

Alex Wagner-Trugman (now that's a mouthful) takes to the stage. Talk about the Clay Aiken effect, at least, Clay was endearing and had one hell of a voice. Alex looks like he's 12 and just has zero charisma. He opts for Elton John's That's Why They Call It The Blues. I've got to give him credit for giving it his own spin but he took it all too far with the overdone Joe Cocker impersonation complete with the knocking down of the mic stand. At least, Joe was usually drunk when he was on stage. I'm not sure how the vote will pan out for Alex especially since he's Vote for the Worst's pick this week. If these three are anything to go by, it's going to be a very long two hours tonight.

Well, doesn't Arianna Afsar fancy herself the little diva? Who actually utters on international TV that they don't want to just get through the competition because they're as cute as a button? Lucky for us, we won't be seeing Arianna any time soon. She went for Abba's The Winner Takes It All and went from button to bottom in the blink of an eye. That was just painful. Buh bye, button, I'm thinking you should maybe try out for one of those child pageant shows, after all you seem so concerned about people judging you solely on your looks.

I'll admit I don't remember Junot Joyner from the earlier rounds and I am not in the least bit familiar with The Plain White T's Hey There Delilah so I am at a lost as to what I feel about his performance. It felt safe and lackluster to me but after watching the train wrecks that have preceded him, I would say he's one of the better that we have seen tonight.

Kristen McNamara hits the stage with Tracy Chapman's Give Me One Reason and finally tonight, someone has peaked my interest. She has soul in her voice and stage presence, however, the arrangement is horrible and she is need of some styling tips, which she was woman enough to admit. As of this moment, Kristen will be getting my vote and is the front runner for one of the top 3 coveted spots tomorrow night.

I didn't care for Nathaniel Marshall from day one. He's just one of those over the top kids who takes things too many steps, too far. I get that he's gay living in a small town and I admire him for being out of the closet, but there's being camp with style and, then, there's the Nathaniel way complete with blue metallic headband. To add to the madness. he insanely picked Meatloaf's I Would Do Anything and butchers the hell out of it. Think bad karaoke and you get a small glimpse of how dreadful it was.

Finally, someone who can sing! Felicia Barton chose Alicia Keyes' No One and works it. I am noticing that the backing singers are actually distracting to almost all the performances. I also will state that Felicia will be coming back either from tomorrow's results show or the Wild Card round on Thursday.

Scott McIntyre is up next. Remember Scott? He's the blind piano player who is pretty damn talented. He belts out Bruce Hornsby's Mandolin Rain and has a few shaky moments but, for the most part, I would describe it as safe at most. I'm thinking the judges will bring him back on Thursday if he doesn't get through the voting process.

Isn't Kendall Beard just the sweet little thing. She goes with Martina McBride's This One's For The Girls and you can tell she's having a good time with it. Good song choice if you ask me, not too young, not too old. She's most definitely marketable in a safe blond kind of way, but I'm not entirely sure she will make it to the Top 12 especially when Paula tells her how great she looks tonight. When Paula starts commenting on your outfit, that's a definite sign that she wasn't that crazy about a performance. Time will tell.

From Puerto Rico, Jorge Nunez stands at the mic to sing Elton John's Don't Let the Sun Go Down and for me, his accent is detracting from the song but the boy can indeed sing. I give him props for not picking a Latin song or singing in Spanish but I'm not sure just how far he can make it in this competition. He will most probably get through tomorrow night.

Last Up Lil Rounds hits the stage and I have someone worthy of developing carpal tunnel for. The whole package and by far, the best of the night. She works her magic on Mary J Blige's Be Without You. Fantastic!

Next Move for Jason Mesnick aka The Bachelor: Tool Academy, Here He Comes

Well, we are watching, reading and listening to all the feedback from last night's finale of The Bachelor and just had a great idea for Jason and Molly's next foray in the reality television world. I'm thinking that VH1 should recruit them for the next season of Tool Academy! Seriously, he's such a pussy, douchebag, bad actor, loser of a man who always plays the "woe is me" card so why not put him up against other such twats!

If you aren't familiar with Tool Academy, it is basically the testosterone equivalent to that other VH1 trainwreck, Charm School. Take a group of guys who are under the impression that they are there to compete for the title of Mr. Awesome and then are met by their girlfriends where they are told that they have just been admitted into the Tool Academy where they will be transformed from tools to knights in shining armor. I bet George Bernard Shaw is rolling in his grave with this latest Pygmalion-inspired reality travesty.

Celebrity Apprentice 2 aka The Trump Train Wreck

I used to be a fan of The Apprentice. After all, I am a reality TV watching whore, who has an evil streak and lives to see people wearing suits get berated by a comb over loving ginger on a weekly basis. However, I gave up on watching the show after it started to jump the shark back in 2007. I was so dismayed by it all, that I didn't even give its new rebranded series, The Celebrity Apprentice, a try last year. So last night with much hesitation, I thought I would check it out with an open mind. Well, needless to say, things did not go well and I lasted an entire 20 minutes before I deleted it off my DVR and chose to never mention this little experiment again but I felt it was my duty as a TV blogger to warn my readers to stay away from this train wrekc. It was HORRID! Sure, like most TV addicts, I enjoy watching a good train wreck just to see how it all plays out but I just couldn't do it this time.

Nothing is worse than a group of Z-list celebrities hanging on for dear life to any shred of a career that they might have left. And when I mean Z-list, a few examples from the show include Claudia Jordan, one of the models from Deal or No Deal and Khloe Kardashian, who from my own research could have only achieved any semblance of fame from selling her soul to the devil. Honestly, her dad was one of the lawyers from the OJ Simpson trial but apart from being on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, what exactly does she do apart from eating??? The only truly recognizable name is Joan Rivers. I would have said face but after all that plastic surgery, Joan is starting to resemble Jocelyn "Catwoman" Wildenstein with each passing minute.

Well, it looks as though those DVD distributors were aware that this is my birthday week and put out a whole host of my favorite shows for the occasion, which means there are a couple of Editor's Choices for this week.

Our first choice is the always hysterically politically incorrect Rick and Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple in All the World. As I have said before, this is the best animated series around. Also coming out in the US which I am dying to see is Hotel Babylon Series 3. Despite the cover of the DVD stating "As Seen On BBC America," the third series never aired in the States. I am a huge Biggest Loser fan and, no, that has no reference to my weight. That is why when I just read this story I had to come over here to vent.

As we saw last night, Dane Patterson was the next to be eliminated from the competition. And if you watched his follow up segment, you saw him and his wife take part in a marathon. Well it turns out that his marathon result and appearance were produced for the show. Why I have no idea?

Doesn't the fact that he now holds the record for the show for losing 100 pounds in 8 weeks, enough for the producers?? I mean losing the equivalent of a young starlet in under two months is nothing to sneeze at and should be commended. But I find that it's absolutely morally wrong for the producers to have picked him up and raced him to the finish line all in the name of a production time crunch but why not just let him do the marathon on his own and film finishing it for real and then get some extras to recreate the start of the race? At least Dane and his wife fessed up about the situation while NBC tries to scramble to save their asses. There I feel better now that I got that off my chest.

American Idol - WTF America!

Tonight's result show of American Idol 8 started off on the wrong foot. As the contestants sang "Just Can't Stop," here at TVholics we yelled, "Oh yes, you can." What the hell were they thinking? That was painful to say the least. You see, I couldn't record the show thanks to Ugly Betty (yes, I am still watching but I'm not sure for how much longer) and Survivor Tocantins keeping the old DVR busy, thus, I was subjected to a very long sixty minutes ahead of me.

My girl, Allison, is up first and I have no doubt that she's safe and I am right. I like to see my carpal tunnel development wasn't in vain. Was there much doubt of that not happening? But at least, they got one of the more obvious ones through first.

After way too much banter between Ryan and the judges, the next contestant through is narrowed down to Kris and Megan. OK, this looks like I might have been completely right but then I am slapped in the face with Kris Allen getting through. WTF! Do I need to get my freaking hearing checked??? You can not be serious!!!! Of course, they get him to sing again and it's just as craptastic as it was last night. I just don't get it. Someone please explain this to me. All I have to say is that Adam had better damn well be the other pick for the night or I am quitting cold turkey what has been a seven year addiction of watching this show.

Of course, the producers torment us with more commercial breaks as it's narrowed down to Nick and Adam. Please don't let the Sanjaya Effect take over this season. OK, the moment arrives and my boy Adam is through. Phew!!!!

So there you have it. What did you think of the results??? Would you have rather seen Nick get in instead of Kris? Were you disappointed like us that Megan will now have to wait until the Wild Card round for her shot at what should have been rightfully hers?? Let us know.

The Bachelor - Another Spin on the Conspiracy Theory

SPOILER ALERT! If you do not want to know what the possible outcome of this season of the Bachelor is, we highly suggest you do not scroll down. Consider yourself forewarned!

With the countdown to the season finale of The Bachelor now only 4 days away, the internet is buzzing louder than a hornet's nest about who exactly is playing new mommy to Jason Mesnick's little Ty. As thousands have read and watched Reality Steve relay the spoiler of the century that ABC planned for Jason to propose to Melissa only to inform her that he made a mistake and is going to ride off into the sunset with Molly during the After the Final Rose episode, I just learned of another take on the breakup.

Per a commenter over on Reality Steve who claims to be an ex-ABC employee with a few contacts for the show, it turns out that Melissa's parents didn't approve of her doing the show in any way, shape or form and do not support her decision to marry Jason. Remember, these are the parents that most of her friends and us, viewers, didn't get to meet during the hometown visit. Melissa does the respectable thing and tells Jason that she wants to take the relationship a little bit slower and that's when pathetic Jason loses it as evidenced in the promos that we have seen since episode one. Turns out Jason was in love with both of them and based his decision on who wanted him most. So what does he do, he breaks up with Melissa and rings up Molly for a booty call. Now that's a great role model for little Ty, don't you think. The sordid threesome will come face to face during the After the Final Rose show and duke it out for all our viewing pleasure.

So there you have it the very latest version of what goes down on Monday's episode. Regardless if this new spoiler or the other one is true, one thing is for certain, I think we are all understanding why Deanna picked Jesse and dumped this jerk last year and just why Jason is still a bachelor. What a schmuck!

Top Chef Finale - I demand a recount

Did you watch the second part of Top Chef Season 5's finale last night? Were you as stunned and shocked as we were? Do you think the producers fixed this season to generate controversy? I know so many questions and so few answers.

I have watched every single episode of Top Chef since Season 1 Episode 1 and just like my former love of that other Magical Elves' production, Project Runway, I'm starting to think that Top Chef has finally run its course (no pun intended). This season just seemed so drawn out to me: far too many contestants this year, lackluster challenges, asinine decisions on who won challenges and a plethora of product placement each episode that seemed to borrow a cue from The Biggest Loser, but the pinnacle of all the disappointment had to be last night's crowning of Hosea as the ultimate Top Chef.

I get the fact that they base the winner of each challenge on that specific meal but in this instance, they should have really looked at how the final three performed throughout the show. Sure, Carla was the dark horse who escaped the cutting block for many weeks and then out of nowhere started showing Tom, Padma and Gail that she really did know a thing or two about cooking. Sure, she resembles a lemur with her kooky eyes but the girl has hutspah. Did she totally screw up her last meal? ABSOLUTELY! Why she ever listened to sous chef, Casey, whom I have never liked, is beyond me. Did she gracefully accept the fact that she lost? A resounding yes. Did I think she might just beat Stefan for the title even with her souffle-less dessert? Yes, because as Tom Colicchio said she cooked with soul but, alas, it was not meant to be.

As to Stefan, yes, I agree he was an arrogant ass most of the time, but the guy kicked some major foodie butt this season. Challenge after challenge, he slaughtered the others. His freezer breaks, what does he do, create his own. But my main issue with Stefan was that he let his ego outshine his talent. He got lazy and a little too comfortable and that was part of his downfall. Was his final meal a prime example of what he's capable of? Yes and no. I agree that it did illustrate perfectly the type of chef he is, but at the same time it wasn't a wow meal. Don't get me wrong, I thought his alligator soup was genius and just showed everyone that even when faced with a nightmare new ingredient, he can still create a delicious dish. Put that in your chef's hat and smoke it, Hosea. Should he have won the show? HELL YES!

But no, Hosea, somehow, was crowned winner. Here's a guy, who I didn't care for from the beginning of the season. A man who should have been eliminated a lot earlier in the competition. A man who works in a seafood restaurant, yet, lost his fair share of challenges that were seafood related. Do I think the producers kept him and that idiot, Leah, in the competition so long because they were trying to create a shomance? ABSOLUTELY! Was it a complete cop out for him to not make a dessert for the final challenge? HELL YEAH! As one of the guests said, a chef should be able to make a dessert especially at this level and he was 100% correct as was Toby Young when he said that a proper meal has a beginning, middle and an end and Hosea's meal did not follow that simple formula. Which leads me to think that this wasn't an unanimous decision by the judges. If you noticed Tom's simple shrug when he was asked if they reached their final decision, it seemed to appear that he wasn't overjoyed with the result.

Will I still watch next season, yes. Top Chef didn't break my heart like Project Runway did. With any luck, it will be a better season. So will you be watching the next installment? Peace Out - Wendy Richards

It's a sad day here at TVholics Anonymous. British acting legend Wendy Richards lost her battle with cancer. For those of you not familiar with Wendy's work, she has appeared on some of the most quintessential classics of British television with roles on Dad's Army, Up Pompeii!, and the Likely Lads but her fame shot through the roof as the cheeky sales girl, Shirley Brahms on Are You Being Served in the 70's. Then in the 80's, she landed the role as the strong matriarch, Pauline Fowler, on the long running soap, EastEnders. When Wendy learned that her cancer had returned a few years ago, she decided to quit EastEnders and her character Pauline was killed off in one of the most lackluster exits the show has seen despite it being the Christmas special. Needless to say, Albert Square has never been the same since. So peace out, Wendy. You will be missed. And if you are in the UK, tonight's episode of Eastie will be dedicated to Ms. Richards and the BBC has just issued a moving tribute. Check it out here.

American Idol - The Second Dozen

Another week, another round of twelve over at American Idol. I was very pleased that the producers came to their senses and got rid of those boring, coddling and puke-worthy post-performance interviews with the relatives. Seriously, having to hear moms blindly disagree with the judges when their child gets a negative review was almost too painful to watch last week. But apart from that no other significant changes took place. So on with the show.

Jasmine Barry wobbled all over the place with Love Song by Sarah Bareills. It was a forgettable performance. I had had high hopes for her since she did stand out for me during Hollywood week. The worst part is the girl was comfortable on stage and had presence. Perhaps, she should try again next year.

Matt Giraud opted for Coldplay's Viva la Vida. A crap song choice if you ask me. I didn't remember this kid in the least from earlier episodes and after this showcase, I wouldn't recognize him if he knocked on my door right now. However, it appears that the judges were impressed from his earlier performances and I have a sinking suspicion that he will make the Wild Card round.

Jeanine Vailes must have thought she was still at a bar doing karaoke because that is the only way to describe her rendition of Maroon 5's This Love. Sure she looks great on stage but that won't be nearly enough to get her through. Buh Bye, Jeanine.

I've been a Nick/Norman fan since his audition. I absolutely detested his comedy schtick but I could see the drag queen underneath it all and when he finally sang, I bet the farm on him. Sadly, tonight, he disappointed the hell out of me. He picked the right song with the obvious drag choice of And I am Telling You from Dreamgirls. The vocals were good but he had to go into his comedy routine again and that's where he lost my backing. However, I can totally see him getting through tomorrow night, after all, he is this week's choice over at Vote for the Worst and even though it didn't work out to Tatiana's benefit, it could do for Nick what it did for Sanjaya. With any luck, he will get picked up for Last Comic Standing when he does eventually leave Idol.

I was impressed by sixteen year old Allison Iraheta during Hollywood week and I am still amazed that she's so young and agreed entirely that she could be one of the dark horses of this competition. She went with a gutsy move with her song choice of Heart's Alone and she rocked it! Best of the night so far hands down! Not only are her vocals incredible but she just has IT!!! I finally have a definite favorite for the competition and, yes, I will be getting carpal tunnel when I start texting in my vote.

I guess Kris Allen didn't pay attention last week when Steve Fowler picked a Michael Jackson song. Kris opted for Man in the Mirror and bored the hell out of me. He picked it up a tiny bit in the last 20 seconds but it was horrific to say the least. I suggest he start packing my bags as soon as he gets back to his room. What the judges saw and heard is another matter. Paula and Simon really liked him and it is sounding like another one for that Wild Card round. Sometimes I think a lot must get lost in translation from seeing it live and watching it on television.

Megan Corkrey wisely chose Corinne Bailey Rae's Put Your Records On and definitely made it her own but I can't say I was overwhelmed by her like I was with Allison. Yet, I absolutely liked her. She's different, fresh and herself and seems to be confident with her awkwardness and uniqueness. An absolute shoe-in for a Wild Card position if she doesn't get the votes tonight. Another contestant worthy of developing carpal tunnel for.

Matt Breitzke went with Tonic's If You Could Only See. Not the best of song choice but if memory serves me this guy did stand out during Hollywood week but tonight's performance was a yawn fest. Matt looked uncomfortable on stage in a constipated kind of way and just lacked any star quality. Another one who should be packing tonight.

Jesse Langseth, who is a dead ringer for Lauren Ambrose, decided to take on Kim Carnes' iconic Bette Davis Eyes. She has a Carly Simon type tone to her voice and did a good job with it but there's just something that wasn't right about the whole performance for me. I didn't hate it but I don't think I will remember it by the end of the show but I think she will be a contender in the Wild Card round.

I didn't recognize Kai Kalama in the least. He sang Jimmy Ruffin's What Becomes of the Broken Hearted. I found it just blah. Safe, if I am being nice about it. I literally wrote down that I would expect to see this at a wedding seconds before Simon uttered those exact words. I love it when that happens. Yet another forgettable performance tonight. Buh bye

Mishavonna Henson, whose name would take up the entire marquee when and if she hits the concert circuit, chose Train's Drops of Jupiter. She can definitely sing but I don't know what the problem was. I think it was the arrangement that was just awkward, while at the same time she felt reserved and disconnected.

Adam Lambert closes the show. I have been a fan of his since I noticed him during Hollywood Week. Sure, I know that he toured with Wicked in the role of Fiyaro, but I don't care. I love him! He has it all, the voice, the charisma, the personality, the stage presence - the total package. So, when he picked The Rolling Stone's Satisfaction, I was in hog heaven despite the band sounding horrific and a little bit of oversinging on his part. I'm thinking they need to do a duet round and pair him with my girl, Allison and watch them tear up the stage. Needless to say, Adam, too, will be to blame when I can't type up the results show tomorrow.

The Real Housewives of New York City - My Eyes Are Still Burning

Just when you thought it was safe to turn on your television, the season premiere of The Real Housewives of New York City turned out to be a hazard to your eyesight along with your mind and sanity. Seriously, there are things that none of us ever needed to see in our lifetimes but last night we were tormented with images of the most despicable, arrogant, full of themselves, obnoxious, holier than thou couple in the entire country if not the world, the McCords aka Alex and Simon. And to make matters even worse, we were subjected to seeing them in various states of undress!!!!

Honestly, was there any need for the close up of Alex's coochie when she was trying on what I can only imagine was a bathing suit. And let's not even bring back that image that nightmares are made of, Simon stripping down to a Speedo on the beach because apparently having to watch Simon try on a dozen or so neon colored slip on sneakers wasn't enough for us. Simon, we get the fact that you have taken metrosexuality to a whole new level and we will even accept the fact that you are one of the most effeminate "straight" men on TV but really Simon, on an overcast day in the Hamptons, one does not, repeat not, don Speedos! That's fine in Saint Barts as you kept reminding us but you are not there, so get over it.

And if that wasn't enough, the producers of the show decided that they would torture us even further when during the previews for next week's episode, they zoomed in way too close on Simon's nipple as he was getting massaged. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Alex and Simon just need to go away. Their contrived relationship complete with puke worthy PDA's every two seconds is just an absolute farce! Why do couples, like this one, think that they are fooling anyone into believing that they are so in love when they have to overcompensate with the "I love you's" and the constant petting of each other. It's a toss up which is grosser - Simon in the Speedo or watching these two paw at each other constantly like grooming chimpanzees.

With any luck, Bravo won't subject us to witnessing Simon getting a back/crack/sac waxing any time soon! The mere thought of that just made my coffee come up my throat but that will not dissuade me from tuning in next week.

Octomom's Dad on Oprah - God's Will My Ass!

I've never been a fan of Oprah. She's just a little too preachy for my liking but on the odd occasion that she has a controversial interview, I will tune in and today was no exception. I have found myself obsessed with Nadya Suleman aka Octomom since she had her litter of test tube babies. So, without hesitation I hit the record button to see what the man, who spawned this breeding creature had to say for himself.

For the most part Ed Doud came across as caring and compassionate but the moment he said that this was God's will and Oprah gave into that asinine reasoning, I lost it. How the hell is this God's will when that bitch was infertile to begin with, which is what God had intended for her all along. Yes, that meant NO KIDS, I guess sometimes the almighty gets it right but humans intervene and screw it all up. Yet no one has shown enough candor to just say just that. Sure they argue that the doctor was in the wrong (absolutely!) and that she's nuttier than a fruitcake but no one has addressed the issue that here is an infertile woman who tinkered with nature five too many times and who should not receive an ounce of pity. This was self-inflicted. If there was such a huge void in her life than why not buy yourself a cat or a dog or a parakeet or better yet adopt a child!

The only possible explanation that I can even dream up apart from just saying she's freaking crazy is that maybe she's a huge Simpsons fan and she just wanted to emulate Apu's wife, Manjula who received an overdose of fertility drugs. I mean that would make a little more rational of an explanation as to why anyone with an iota of a brain would do something like this! And this crazy who'e supposedly studies psychology and worked in the medical profession! This is what type of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest employees are in our health care system! I shudder to think.

And while I am on the subject of residents who live in Cloud Cuckoo Land, what the hell is up with Oprah. One minute she's all serious and the next she's talking to her audience like they are in preschool. I'm thinking that Tyra isn't possessed by her weave after all and is just taking her plans to overthrow the big O very seriously.

Another week and another host of your favorite TV shows coming to DVD here in the US and the UK. This week's editor's choice goes to the Most Haunted series. Sure I know it's all fake and scripted but how can you not get sucked into all the terror. Yvette Fielding's nervous energy coupled with her egging on the evil spirits is must watch television and in case you didn't know Most Haunted is aired every Friday here in the States on The Travel Channel.

Another recommendation that I would like to make even though I haven't watch it yet is Breaking Bad. Somehow I missed this show when it first aired on AMC. I just can't imagine a series that centers itself around a high school chemistry teacher who is supporting his handicapped son and pregnant wife who then finds out he has lung cancer and recruits one of his students to set up a meth lab. Seriously, this sounds brilliant and has proved to be quite a hit with the critics.

The Bachelor Finale - Is there a conspiracy?

So we are a little more than one week away from finding out who Jason Mesnick aka The Bachelor picks to be his bride and new mommy for little Ty. Are you feeling like we are, that this has been one of the most boring runs of the series so far? Jason is just so lackluster and predictable and just so freaking blah! Sure, we had stalker girl who kept us on our toes. And Deanna's future visit to beg Jason to take her back will be great TV to watch. And lest we forget Naomi's entire family but now we have a whole new mystery to lure us back into wanting to watch the last few episodes. You see as I was checking my To Do list on the old DVR, I noticed that we are getting two, yes, TWO After the Final Rose specials. WTF???? Well, not one to let any stone go unturned, I just discovered what is really going on.

So for those of you who don't want to have the surprise ruined, do not read any further as there are spoilers aplenty! Consider yourself forewarned!

Per Reality Steve, it turns out that HandsomePete over on YouTube was on to something. Remember the brilliant video that Pete created that analyzed the previews from the season premiere to reveal Melissa's pinkie ring as the major indicator that Jason picked her. Well, according to Steve, he does indeed opt for Melissa over Molly but it wasn't to be happily ever after.

You see that suspicious second After the Final Rose special that I noticed showing up on my To Do list is a real humdinger. Jason called for a follow up special to do worse than DeAnna did to him, he breaks up with Melissa and announces he made a drastic mistake and that he's in love with Molly. How messed up is that? I like to see he's setting such a wonderful example for his precious little Ty to follow.

Of course, I am with Steve in thinking that this is ABC's scripted attempt to drum up some credibility for the show. After all, so far every seasons' couples' track record is abyssmal with not one of them still together. The only redeeming thing that could make this truly fan-freaking-tastic TV would be if after Jason dumps Melissa on national TV and then proclaims his faithful undying love for Molly, would be for Molly to slap him right across the face and leave but I very much doubt this will happen. It would on Rock of Love where at least the women are honest with why they are on the show. I have a bit more respect for the who'es over on VH-1, they portray who they really are unlike these prissy girls on the Bachelor who are all sweetness and light yet I have never seen one of them not refuse the shagfest that is the fantasy suite.

So to see how it all comes to fruition, tune into ABC on Monday, February 23rd for the first After the Rose special where I am sure we will be seeing all those cute moments that we might have missed and then on March 2nd watch the hypocrite in action as he breaks Melissa's heart. Gee, I guess we know who will be our next Bachelorette, huh?

American Idol - Who escaped the ax?

Well it's the first results show of American Idol 8 and while I did make my predictions, I still am not really wowed by anyone just yet. I was also reminded why I set my DVR to record AI despite usually watching it live. Seriously, an hour is not needed to deliver the news. So who made it??

It was nice to see that we were right by naming Alexis aka Pinkie as Top Female. I think she sang better tonight which was nice to see.

The big shocker for the night is that Michael "Oil Rig Guy" Sarver received the third highest vote. Didn't see that one coming! Like Alexis, I think he sang better tonight but he still needs to show some star quality if he really wants to stand a chance. I guess it says a lot about nerves which begs the question, do these guys have what it takes to go all the way?

And after 60 minutes of waiting around for the big reveal, it came down to Tatiana and Danny Gokey. Part of me really wanted Tatiana to get through just for a laugh. Let's face it, Danny would have advanced regardless. I, also, was waiting for the old Tatiana to reappear. I really did think they were going to call for the medics since she looked like she was going to pass out any second when she heard the news that her psychic was not so correct in her prediction. Maybe next time, she should consult Dionne Warwick and her psychic friend network or even Miss Cleo for a second and third opinion.

American Idol - The First Dozen

Well, it's been a few weeks since American Idol 8 started and we are finally at the stage of the show where I get really interested. As I have said before, the original auditions portion just doesn't float my boat. So what did the first week bring? A whole lot of blah, if you ask me. So let's take a closer look at the first dozen of our Top 36, shall we?

Jackie Tohn opened the show with Elvis' Little Less Conversation. WTF was that girl wearing??? It looked like a cross between Olivia Newton John's Sandy after she got her bad girl makeover mixed with Run DMC. Seriously, it's only because of the outfit that I even remember her performance. I had had high hopes for her until I was subjected to her awkward flailing on stage. I'm thinking we might see Jackie again during the Wild Card round. Simon summed it up perfectly though, when he referred to her as the clown of the night.

Next up, Rick Braddy. Honestly, I don't remember his performance in the least, I even had to consult Google to see what he had sung. In case you are wondering, it was A Song For You by Leon Russell. As you can tell, I don't have high hopes for Ricky but the judges seemed to like him enough so perhaps we will see him too in the Wild Card phase.

Alexis Grace takes the stage. Pinkie, as I now refer to her, was okay but not as fantastic as the judges made her out to be. I'm always leery of anyone taking on an Aretha song. Seriously, if you don't have the voice or the soul to do it justice, just don't even bother attempting this feat.

Brent Keith should have stayed in Hicktown. Yes, that was his song choice and it didn't seem that anyone had ever heard of it before. A totally lackluster performance in my opinion. Randy gave Brent a little career advice and told him he would be great on the Chili Cook-Off Circuit, which I am thinking should not be construed as a compliment.

Stevie Wright murdered Taylor Swift's You Belong. What the hell was she thinking? Sure, she's 16 and had totally impressed the judges with her performance of Etta James' At Last during the earlier auditions but this was just cringe worthy. Note to contestants: when the panel say to you, "Pick a younger song," that does not mean literally. Buh-bye, Stevie.

Anoop "Dawg" Dasai seems to be a crowd favorite. Some have even said that it could be because of the popularity of Slumdog Millionaire which I think is totally absurd. His rendition of Monique's Angel of Mine was okay but nothing really too stupendous but as he's considered one of the most likable on the show up to now, I think he might just eke his way to the Top 12 either by way of this round or most definitely via the Wild Card. Time will tell.

Casey Carlson's Every Little Thing You Do Is Magic by The Police was atrocious. As the judges remarked, you do not sing anything by such an iconic band or artist and, if you do try and attempt this, you had better make it your own and blow us away. Not only was Casey out of tune but what was with all of those facial expressions. Does she suffer from Tourrette's Syndrome with all of those tics??? And the fact that she actually thought she was good when the judges were bashing her, was just unbearable to watch. Casey's reaction made me think that she might have been on the kiddie pageant circuit as a tyke and has never heard real criticism before. I don't think we will be seeing her again after the results show.

Michael "Oil Rig Guy" Sarver opted for Gavin DeGraw's I Don't Want to Be which was fine but lacked any real passion in its delivery. A word to Michael, ditch the white shirt! Black is a much more slimming color especially for broadcast purposes. I'm thinking the judges will more than likely bring him back in the Wild Card round for one last try.

Anne Marie Bosovich made the same mistake as Alexis. She opted for not only an Aretha song, but the anthem Natural Woman. I was utterly disappointed with her performance. I had liked her in the auditions despite the judges giving her two chances. Remember Simon sent her out to make her look a little more star-like but tonight her performance was reeked with pitch problems. My gut is telling me that we will see her in the Wild Card round as Paula seemed to gush over her.

Steven Fowler's Rock With You was just abysmal. Here's another case where a contestant took an iconic song and didn't have success. You might recall at the start of Hollywood week, Simon proclaimed that anyone who forgot their lyrics would be axed immediately. Well, Steven was the exception to that rule apparently as he not only forgot the lyrics but stormed off stage in Hollywood. Well this time, he managed to remember the words but forgot to bring any form of personality with him. We bid you a fond adieu, Steven.

Finally, the most talked about contestant since William Hung, Tatiana Nicole del Toro hits the stage. It appeared that she opted to take her lithium for tonight's performance. Seriously, who is this woman who took over the Puerto Rican import's soul??? Where's the nails on chalkboard like giggling that we have all grown to hate? Where's the cockiness? Who is this woman??? Well, it turns out this lookalike can sing on par with her nuttier twin, not "knock me over with a feather" good but better than the majority of the other people we have seen this episode and that's even with a huge song like Whitney Houston's I'm Saving All My Love For You. I'm thinking she might just make it through especially as she has the support of AI's arc nemesis Vote for the Worst, who was responsible for keeping the trainwreck known as Sanjaya around for far too long a few seasons ago. But honestly, Tati was much better than the majority of the other female contestants.

Last up, Danny Gokey who is looking to be this year's favorite. I had noticed him early on so I expect that he will easily get through to the Top 12 finals. He performed Mariah Carey's Heroes which I felt was far too cliche since we are constantly reminded that he recently lost his wife. Sure, that's a tragedy but I am over hearing everyone's sob story. This is a TALENT competition, people! Danny does nail his performance and also manages to segue way out of further talk of his wife, which I give him credit for.

What are my predictions?

Top Female: Alexis Grace (out of the bunch she did do the best)
Top Male: Danny Gokey (obvious!)
Next Highest Vote: it's a toss up between Anoop Daisi or Tatianna Nicole del Torres

It's the Motherf***ing Model Off of the Century!

Just as the world is celebrating A/W 09 Fashion Week, over here at TVholics we've been craving our fair share of rail thin models, cackling cat fights and all those lovely clothes. Let's face it we are still getting over our breakup from Project Runway. That void in our heart needs some stylish filling and fast. So when we heard the news that Make Me a Supermodel is returning for its sophomore season over on Bravo, (insert squeals of joy!) and if that wasn't enough, the news that Tyra will be returning with America's Next Top Model or ANTM as some of us, addicts call it, we were ecstatic to say the very least.

Frankly I don't think you can compare the two shows. Sure they are both reality TV series where models are living and working together but seriously, they are like apples and oranges and just to prove this point the CW refers to ANTM as a dramality! Yes, you read that right, dramality. I kind of like this term in a weird way because we all know these "reality" shows are scripted be it with actual writers or most definitely in the editing room to cause the drama so why not meld the two.

First up, the long running ANTM. This will be season, or as they call it cycle, 12. Sure, Tyra was a supermodel and, yes, the first couple of seasons were good what with Janice Dickinson kicking off at panel nearly every episode, but, somehow, Tyra has morphed into a wanna be Oprah who I am more than positive must have multiple personalities. Honestly, that can be the only explanation as to how she can speak like a four year old one moment, then sound like she's straight from the hood the next, followed by a horrid misuse of the French language with one of the worst accents you will ever hear, all in the span of a few seconds! It's almost as though she is possessed by her weave since it feels like all she has to do is snap it into place and voila, she channels a new personality. But that is precisely why we continue to watch the show.

Don't even get me started talking about these aspiring "models." In the early days of the show, the girls could actually name at least one famous model or designer but now you are lucky if they can remember their names. And why do they feel the need to scream and shriek in pseudo surprise whenever Tyra is in the room? She's the freaking host of the show, you morons! It's absolutely cringe worthy. But once again, this is why we watch the show. And can I just make one demand to all producers out there, please don't bring fashion inspired shows here to Los Angeles. Just please don't! It's absolutely inane. Sure there is what is called the California casual look but LA is NOT a fashion mecca. Our idea of "fashion week" is a joke when the most anticipated collection is from Lauren Conrad of The Hills!!!

Now onto Make Me a Supermodel. First of all, it takes place in New York, a city with real fashion. We are dealing with real aspiring models for the most part. Ones who can spot Jourdan Dunn a mile away. This show recognizes the fact that models can be from both sexes and that not all male models are gay. Last year, it spawned what is now commonly referred to as the bromance. C'mon, you remember Ben and Ronnie aka Bronnie???

This season the lovely Tyson Beckford (finally a bit of eye candy for us, girls, and some of you boys, too) is joined by new co-mentor and host, supermodel Nicole Trunfio. Oddly enough Nicole was also crowned winner of the Australian series, Search for a Supermodel back in 2002 so these reality or dramality shows really do work. Niki Taylor decided to opt out of this season since she is producing herself a little baby. Other shake ups to the panel include a total revamp of the judges. Out are: Jennifer Starr and Cory Bautista and in are Catherine Manadrino, Jenny Shimizu, Marlon and Perou. With such a major makeover which I am not sure the show needed, I am excited to embrace the new season.

So mark your calendars for March 4th, coincidentally my birthday, when the model-off of the century takes off with America's Next Top Model starting the evening on the CW at 8:00pm and Make Me a Supermodel premiering on Bravo at 10pm What with the dueling kiddie pageant shows, Toddlers & Tiaras versus Little Miss Perfect, and now this, mid-season is quickly looking to become a very bitchy walk down the reality catwalk.

Like Crack: Bad Girls

There are some shows that you just know aren't good for you but like crack, you can't kick the habit. One of my favorite and guiltiest pleasures of them all is a show called Bad Girls. It used to be shown on BBC America but got yanked due to presumed low ratings but, luckily for us die hard fans, LOGO picked the series up and not just where it left off but from the beginning. We are now on Series 6 and just when you think you have seen it all, the show outdoes itself with one of the most awesome crossovers I have ever seen on television!

Just to give you a little background about the show, it is a women's prison "drama." Set at HMP Larkhill, it follows the inmates and, of course, the screws that watch them, kind of like a locked up dysfunctional family. It was touted to be a female version of HBO's OZ but after about the second season, the drama was often riddled with outrageous plot twists and as often is the case with British television, much humor. The official Bad Girls UK website even has outlined the classic one-liners for each episode.

Now a women's prison show being campy is nothing new. Some of you might remember the classic Australian "drama" Prisoner Cell Block H. From what I know of it, it was a huge underground classic because it was just so bad that it was great. How outrageous does Bad Girls get, well, season 5 opened up with Shell Dockley, one of the most notorious inmates who not only escapes prison but finds herself working the strip clubs of Amsterdam all the while heavily pregnant and donning a giant penis when who, of course, walks into the club during a stag night but her arch nemesis, Fenner, whom she stabbed with a bottle. This is just one tiny example of how outlandish this series can get.

But this isn't the moment that left me speechless. Oh no, that moment came this week when we meet one of the new criminals checking into Larkhill, Tanya Turner. You might recognize that name. She was the evil ringleader of that other guilty pleasure, Footballers Wives. Seriously, how the hell did they manage to meld the two? The writers should be knighted for pulling this stunt off. Just as a refresher in case you weren't hooked to FW, Tanya managed to kill off her husband via a little Viagra overdose, switch babies with a little help from a bottle of fake tan and snorted enough cocaine to help fund the Colombian economy. Turns out it was the latter drug addiction that landed her in the pokey and she's having none of it. It's almost cute when she gets introduced to jail life what with the screws advising her to remove her jewels before she goes into G Wing or that room service isn't an option but before you start feeling sorry for her, remember this is Tanya we're talking about. Wherever she lands herself, trouble is often right behind her.

So let the games begin because honestly, TV really doesn't get better than this. In case you want to catch up on former episodes, Logo airs reruns at 3am every night with new episodes on Thursdays at 7pm.

A Narrow Escape on The Bachelor

Did you watch it tonight??? Oy vay!!! Sure tonight's Bachelor started off innocently enough with hometown visits to meet the final four's parents. Sure, we found out that Jillian's mom suffers from severe depression but the family was jolly and grandma was a hoot and it's not like it's an infectious disease or anything. Our hero Jason did swimmingly.

Then we went over to Molly's hometown where we met those wacky relatives of her with their funny hats and the psychoanalytical drawing test that mom administered. At this point, I was just ho hum about it and was ready just to get to the end to find out who left without a rose but my gut instinct said, "Oh just watch some more. You know you want to." So I gave into temptation and sped through the commercials and was my gut right or what???

We meet Naomi's clan. Now I was never a Naomi fan and even though Stephanie freaked me out in a Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction way, but this episode was too priceless to have missed out on if he had opted for a visit to Stephanie's shrine to her late husband. Naomi's mom greets him with a dead dove and some tree hugging story about how the dove died in front of her and it was symbolic of their meeting Jason. She then asks him to bury "Rosie" (yes she named the freaking dove) and give its eulogy. Naomi is stunned and shocked as any sane rational person would be. Jason is laughing it off but you can tell he's uncomfortable.

But if you thought this was the only awkward moment, just you wait. Dad takes Jason to the side and gives him a good grilling about Jesus. You see dad is a Judeo Christian of the first order. As he asks Jason his opinions on religion and relationships, you can actually see the moment that Jason says "Get me out of here!" First it was a stern intent look (despite the glittering slot machines behind him), then that changed to a fake pageant smile with a look of fear in his eyes. This melded into a glazed over look but mom swoops in to save him or so we are led to believe. Mom sits our boy down to tell him about her beliefs such as Indigo Children and how she is more than positive that Jason is a fellow Indigo Child and that they met in a previous life where she says he was a great mother. Right then and there Jason has made his decision about who is going home tonight. I don't even think that if Melissa's parents turned out to be axe wielding murders with two heads, he would opt otherwise.

As we have it, Melissa's parents don't condone her participation on the show and choose not to take part in the hometown visit. So Melissa calls in the calvary of her framily so that Jason can get to see her from her friends point of view. He does seem to have some trepidations about the dysfunction of Melissa's family and the fact that none of her friends know her mom and dad.

Rose ceremony comes and goes and no shocker, Naomi leaves roseless. Next week though promises to be filled with some scripted drama with the return of that she-devil Deanna who broke Jason's heart last season. Will he go back to her or will he say good bye?? I think we all know the answer but still should make for some good vegging time.

I was reminded this week why I gave up watching BBC America's Last Restaurant Standing last season. Sure I am a sucker for everything British and anything cooking related. I'm hooked on all the Gordon Ramsay shows like The F Word, Kitchen Nightmares and Hell's Kitchen. That's why it pains me to say LRS just doesn't sate my hunger. It's a great concept. Take one amazing chef/restaurateur, throw in a handful of aspiring restaurant owners and you should have a pretty decent reality show but unfortunately, it doesn't come out the oven that way. It's not the players or judges fault. Instead it's the addition of the producers that sours the show. When watching any show, there is just absolutely NO need to have to basically re-air the last episode to bring your viewers up to speed. Seriously, this week I sat down expecting a new episode and what do I get a repackaged version of last week, not even one one extra scene to supplement my craving. Maybe I will give it another try next week, if my hunger pangs get to be excrutiating.

But Wait There's More... The Snuggie

I'm more than positive you have all seen the ads for the amazing Snuggie. How can you miss them? I remember the first time I saw it. I was just so pissed at myself for not coming up with the idea to rebrand the bathrobe as the all purpose, cold blocking money saving Snuggie.

I love how they throw out as a major selling point that this will cut your high heating bills. Seriously, how does it do that unlike a blanket or a normal robe?? Is it the equivalent to Kryptonite for the meter reader???

And since when is the Friar Tuck look fashionable??? Sure you are in the privacy of your own home innocently watching television but what if there is an earthquake or fire or even an alien takeover and you run outside in your Snuggie where I am sure someone will guffaw louder than Nelson from The Simpsons at your wardrobe. But then again if you are vertically challenged you might actually kill yourself if you tried to run in this as the length looks to be only fitting to Andre the Giant or a giraffe despite its claims of one size fits all.

And did you notice that family that was daring enough to wear theirs to a sporting event. Now we all know that those other spectators should receive some kind of award for having to be filmed sitting next to the Heaven's Gate wannabes without pointing and staring. These people are surely trained thespians, that's for damn sure.

And how has human civilization not gone extinct prior to this invention. Think about the thousands of years on this planet freezing our derrieres off since us, primates, couldn't figure out how to cover ourselves properly. These are the things that keep me up at night when I am pondering the meaning of life.

Although we are given a variety of colors to choose from such as sage green (I'm not thinking you are quite the sage if you indeed order one of these horse covers) but I am a bit disappointed that they haven't included slimming black. After all the Snuggie is becoming the new in fashion accessory for winter.

And what's with the lack of a hood??? I'm not sure I am ready to risk hypothermia out there at all of those outdoor events. And what about a pocket? Let's face it, your remote control could get lost in all that fabric thus possibly cardiac arrest or DTs when you can't change the channel. Hmm.... I think I see a new and improved Snuggie in the making. But wait it appears Snuggie already has an evil clone in the form of the Toasty Wrap. Same commercial just a new name with a new voiceover and even an endorsement from Montel Williams! Just admit it, if Montel is peddling it, it has to be good, right? Oh the Snuggie people are really true advertising geniuses. And if you think that this is just the first such revolutionary blanket, you are sadly mistaken. Other variations that seem to precede the Snuggie include the cleverly named Slanket and the Freedom Blanket. I like the cross marketing of patriotism and comfort on that one!

As one person said when I asked about what alternate uses they could think of for the Snuggie, they suggested always bringing one on a plane so couples wouldn't have to risk catching a chill when sauntering off to the restroom for a quick trip to the Mile High Club. With all that extra fabric no one will ever surmise what you are really getting up to underneath it and all from the comfort of your assigned seat!

And think of the endless possibilities to your wardrobe if you also order your very own Bedazzler. No more pesky coats or wraps at proms or weddings, instead you can just cocoon yourself in your blinged out Snuggie and still take home the title of prom queen.

Off the Wagon Mike: LOST Week 2

It's Off the Wagon Mike here with my next Lost review. The first two episodes of this season were great so far and this episode continues that tradition. Not only is it a great episode, but it's one that concentrates on characters that are relatively new in the Lost universe.

This episode is all about Faraday, which makes sense since he is the one on the island who seems to know what is really going on and what the consequences will be to the group of survivors who have come along for the time traveling ride. By the end of the episode we all find out just how dangerous traveling through time is for the group still stuck on the island.

The other part of the episode follows Desmond on his quest to help Faraday after he had a dream about him telling Desmond to go find his mother. This part of the episode is great too and it's always nice to see Desmond and Penelope together. A big question remains as to why Desmond just remembered his conversation with Faraday when he did. Is it because he just dreamt about it, or is it because he was just told about it and the group of survivors on the island are skipping through time, but are also on the same timeline as the group who got off the island? I'm not too worried about it, I'm just glad to have another great episode of Lost.

Toddlers & Tiaras: Bring on the Fake Tan, Hair and Toe Nails?

Well after weeks of waiting, Toddlers & Tiaras finally debuted last night and although not as shocking as I thought it would, could or should be, it was still highly entertaining and fear invoking. To catch you up to speed, T&T follows a set of three children each week as they vie for pageant glory. This week we are in Texas for the Universal Royalty Pageant which according to Annette Hill, pageant director, is the largest event of the pageant year. That Annette amused the hell out of me. At one point she tells us that she frowns upon kids using fake tans as in her words, "you should use what God gave you," but then goes on to say that hairpieces and fake eyelashes are pretty much prerequisite enhancements that are critical to any competition. WTF is all I have to say to that crazy ideology. Seriously, fake tan bad, gluing on fake nails good. Talk about sending out mixed messages.

First up is Rebecca Alley and her mom, Stacey. You see the Universal Royalty Pageant is just not for little ones. Oh no, this granddaddy of kiddie pageantry is open to moms as well, thus, mom and daughter could be duking it out for the title. Nice twist, huh? This will be Rebecca and Stacey's first national pageant despite Rebecca already winning 31 crowns and 29 trophies. Stacey is a unique creature to say the least. When people say that she's obsessed with pageants, her reply is a very cult like, "Maybe." Turns out that before Rebecca came into the picture, Stacey was very into the dog show world. Dogs, daughters, I can see the similarities. Is there really any difference between parading your dog on a leash to acting like a lunatic in the audience while you prod your daughter along with her routine. At least dog shows are a tad more respectable. The most disturbing thing that Rebecca and her mom get up to is a pre-pageant tanning session. Stacey informs us that it's to hide any imperfections. Exactly, how many imperfections can a 6 year old possibly have that require cosmetic correction??? WTF!! In case you are wondering, Rebecca opted for a medium glow.

Next we jet over to Garland, Texas, where we meet Meaghan Jones and her mom, Phyllis. Meaghan is an old pro in the industry with over 8 years of competing, after all she is 9! Her biggest prize was a new car which, of course, can be used by mom and dad to shuttle their little darlings from pageant to pageant. Now that just gave me a thought, I wonder if any of these proud parents have their cars wrapped with their little winner's photos. Hmm... But back to the Jones. Phyllis is a self proclaimed competitor and even says, "They are in it to win it." Since both mom and daughter could potentially be competing against each other, they start comparing their head shots and start debating about who is more bow-legged which was then followed by a trip to the beauty supply store where they pick up some new hair pieces and some nail tips for Meaghan's fingers and toes. I have no idea why anyone much less a 9 year old glues fake tips on their toe nails but to each their own I suppose. Back to Meaghan, I like her. Sure she's a bit cocky always reminding her mom that she won't win big at the pageant because Meaghan herself will be the queen of the show but the girl's got spunk.

Last but certainly not least is Ava Perez, who has been in the biz for 3/4 of her life. She's 2!!!!! But wait it gets better when we meet mom and dad. Tanya is pretty quiet for the most part which can possibly be attributed to nerves but when she does speak it's usually to coach Ava to say things like "I love trophies/pageants" to which Ava usually replies, "No." At times it felt like Tanya was training a parrot but, for the most part, she seems to be the most laid back of the moms which can only mean one thing - we have a pageant dad in the house, y'all, and just not your run of the mill variety either! Oh no, David is a self-proclaimed Super Pageant Dad. Now what makes him so super? Well, he is Ava's coach, costume designer, makeup artist and most of all her biggest cheerleader. Those were his words not mine. He even admitted on national television that once they found out they were having a girl, they were already signing her up for pageants which means that Ava has been technically competing since she was in utero!!!! I don't doubt for one second that David is indeed Ava's dad because Oscar Wilde did, in fact, have children too. Let's put it this way, David has a very effeminate manner about him. After all, he does proudly boast that he can bead a dress but can't change a flat tire.

Now that we have gotten the intros out of the way, on with the show. Pageant weekend arrives and it's a flurry of neon sequins, big hair and caked on makeup. Annette tells us this is one of the largest turn outs that they have had with 100 contestants. Categories include babies, toddlers, teens and the Miss/Mrs section for the moms. The judges for this extravaganza include Kimberly Nobles who concentrates on a girl's features so they can later pimp her out for print work and Michael G. Flores who looks at the whole package and is considered a hard judge when scoring. What I need to know is exactly how many Michael Flores' are there in the pageant judging world that he needs to include the G in his name.

Day 1 is all about the talent. It's interesting to say the very least. The babies are carried in and I guess their talent consists of staying awake and possibly dazzling the judges with a smile or a little cooing action but I'm not 100% sure. One toddler's talent is just standing there looking around as her mother shakes the child's hips from side to side. Another wee lass is carried on stage all the while hiding her face in what can only be thought of as a preemptive strike against future embarrassing moments when mom brings out the old scrapbook. It's a trainwreck but Ava twirls in to save the day.

For once on a reality talent show, the camera guy keeps a tight shot on the performer's face because you can just tell that Ava is looking at dad for some guidance and cues. Yes, David is on the stage armed with a red, white and blue feather duster. Not a pretty sight, let me tell you. Finishing her act off with an assisted backflip, Ava and dad are pleased with her performance. As he puts it, it's about Ava attracting attention to herself rather than concentrating on the actual talent. I wonder if Mozart's dad felt this way?

Rebecca is featured next with a little dance routine. Now when I say dance, I actually mean a lot of skipping around the stage and what seems to be a popular trend at these shindigs, wagging her finger in the air. She too opted to end her routine with a bit of gymnastics and by the look of that cartwheel I'm not thinking we will be seeing her at the 2016 Olympics. Mom is beaming and remarks on how sparkly Rebecca was and how great her coloring looked under the lights. I guess the medium glow was a good choice after all.

Meaghan is called up to perform but she's nowhere to be found. So they proceed with the mom portion of the night. Stacey is up and she's nervous. Her BPF (Best Pageant Friend) made her a custom sequined spandex one piece jumpsuit complete with covered bare midriff! It's a sight only second to David's feather duster dance but Stacey says that she feels super skinny and confident in it. How? I have no idea but you go girl! She takes to the stage with her baton and tries her hand at some twirling. It's a bigger trainwreck than the shy toddlers but she is happy with it and didn't drop the baton once.

Meaghan finally arrives and even though she's running 30 minutes late and has to get ready fast, she rocks it. She does a little hip hop routine and nails it. Sure, she shouldn't go auditioning for SYTYCD quite yet but she had soul, damn it! Let's hope that she doesn't get penalized for mom's lack of consulting Mapquest since they took a wrong turn somewhere and got lost.

Day 2 and it's all about beauty. The toddlers seem to be redeeming themselves after the shambolic talent round even though I nearly spit out my drink when I heard that one toddler's favorite hobbies include shopping and hanging on the telephone. Who the hell is she calling?? Ava comes out in her little custom made beauty frock. This time accompanied by Tanya, Ava decides to break up the intensity of the situation and run a few laps around the stage until she trips and falls flat on her face. I have to give it to her she didn't shed a tear. David is proud of her and let's us know that her falling is a bit of a trademark she's developed but as long as she gets up that's all that matters. And in case you were wondering, Ava's hobbies include dancing and twirling, her ambition is to be Miss USA and her favorite food is chicken nuggets.

Rebecca is next. Her ambition in life is to be a rockstar like Hannah Montana but judging by her pageant walk you would never know it. She's super stiff and has that lollipop look about her thanks to the bouffant hair and stiff dress. Her mom is over the moon and proclaims that there must have been stardust in the air because magic was created. Are you starting to get the impression that those people who called her obsessed are on to something??

Meaghan makes her way to the stage and looks more like a 30 year old woman from the neck up than her 9 year old body would let on. It's actually quite creepy but still nowhere in the league of David or Stacey's twirling outfit. We do find out that Meaghan enjoys cooking shows and her favorite food is crab legs with a side of shrimp. I'm still rooting for her.

The moms proceed and it's all a bit lack luster. Tanya is sporting giant hair that almost gives Amy Winehouse a run for her money. Stacey comes out in a baby pink Disney-type princess gown that just looks ridiculous while Phyllis works the catwalk in a little black body hugging cutout dress. The only weirdness in any of the moms' hobbies was with the awkward Stacey. Who the hell answers the question, "What is your favorite television show?" with "a little bit of news." Was she trying to be witty?? I just don't get it.

For the final round of judging we have a special event, the swimsuit competition. Annette informs us right away that she prefers the old school one piece especially for the toddlers. Well, thank god for that! But still it's freaking disturbing to see little girls sashaying provocatively with one hand on their hip as they flip their hair back. I know these parents harp on about how these pageants are teaching them confidence but isn't it teaching them about sex appeal too. Case in point, David's custom bathing suit for Ava. Now we all know that he is a tad on the eccentric side but who in their right mind puts their 2 year old child in an S+M drag queen inspired bathing suit complete with fake leather collar, see through black cape, leopard print one piece completed with a gold ankle cuff!!!! Someone please call Social Services for this fashion emergency!

The competition is over and the award ceremony is next. The top title is Ultimate Grand Supreme which receives not only a tiara, sash and gigantic trophy but also $5,000 in cold hard cash. There are also 3 $1000 Mini Grand awards and a bunch of $100 Queen prizes.

Our girls do okay. Ava takes 1st Runner Up in the toddler division which means she's out of the running for the Grand Supreme and Mini titles. David isn't taking the news well and despite Ava receiving a towering trophy he's not sure how he will break the news to her that she only got second place. Somehow, I don't think Ava will really care or even notice that she was only second best but who knows years from now this loss could translate to years on the old therapy couch. Rebecca cleans up with the titles Most Beautiful, Talent, Congeniality and Swimsuit but loses out on be named Queen which is a good thing because that means the Ultimate prizes are still in her reach which is what she wants the most. It's all about the Benjamins for our little Rebecca, don't you know. Meaghan also sweeps up with Most Beautiful, Photogenic and Congeniality which means that like Rebecca she moves on to the next level. The moms aren't quite as successful. Tanya gets Most Photogenic while Stacey gets a goodie bag as a consolation prize. Phyllis is named 1st Runner Up and while that takes her out of the Ultimate round, she and Meaghan are over the moon.

The final awards are doled out and Rebecca gets her wish. She takes home one of the $1000 Ultimate Mini titles and is all to happy to fan herself with the cash. Meaghan wins the Ultimate Royalty Title along with the $5000. I knew this girl would get the gold. She's more overjoyed that now that her job is done and she won, she gets to go to Inner Space Cavern and a snake farm. David still can't understand how his girls didn't make the finals and I'm sure he would be none too pleased to hear Annette's critique of Ava's performance because she dissed her for having too much energy.

All in all, Toddler & Tiaras was not as cringe worthy as I had hoped for but this was only the first episode of the season so who knows what next week will bring.

If it ain't broke why change it - American Idol

Sure the country is still hyped about getting a new president. Hell, the majority of the world is happy for us. Ding Dong the W is finally Gone was one of our favorite chants but to continue with the patriotic theme, we are also excited about welcoming a whole new crop of kids looking to become the next American Idol. Sure it's way too early to even start making predictions as only a handful of episodes have aired but so far I see a few whom I feel good about. I'm never that keen to watch the audition rounds though. Don't get me wrong I never miss an episode but there are just so many bimbos, who think they are the next Britney, or mentally challenged contenders, who are being exploited all in the name of a guffaw, that I can stomach. It's just not as titillating as the actual competition when they get to Hollywood and you watch some of those aforementioned bimbos realize that they are just tiny guppies in the Pacific Ocean and either have a mental breakdown or just aren't as talented as mom and dad told them they were.

They claim that this season we will see some twists and turns. Obviously the biggest so far is the addition of a fourth judge, Kara DioGuardi. Personally, I don't get it. She seems to just be a sane version of Paula but it's still early days to have formed a firm opinion for her purpose on the show. Sure she comes with some great credentials as a very successful songwriter and producer and if you have a look at some of the artists she has worked with, you will notice that there are quite a few past Idols on the list and even one of her co-judges! And if you thought that Kara being added to the judging panel was a bit of a coinkydink, I learned that this is not her first foray into the world of reality television judging?? She was on the panel of the ill fated and short lived, The One: Making a Music Star. But let's hope this is where any connection is lost because The One was canceled after only two weeks on the air with the second lowest rated premiere in the history of network television. In case you are wondering , top honor goes to Fox's Glory Days which oddly enough starred Brad Pitt in his last TV role before hitting the big time.

But sadly the producers of AI seem to also be adopting from The One the idea that this season should have a Big Brother/Real World feel. I'm not that keen on this. I won't say it's new because they kind of tried this during the first few seasons. Personally, I think they will use these spots for advertising purposes a bit like their hideous Ford commercials. You know when unsuspectingly the entire cast meet up in various scenarios singing as if they are aboard The Love Boat. This is exactly the same moment that I normally start questioning my sanity for continuing to watch this train wreck.

But wait there's more! Yes, more changes like extra episodes of the Hollywood round which for a self-admitted AI addict is considered fan-freaking-tastic. Why? Because now we can have a predetermined opinion where our vote will go when voting begins. But wait again, there's even another change there. We will go from a top 36 who graduate from Hollywood and make it to the real show where we, the AI addicts can fire up the phone lines. But if you thought that was the last trick up those cunning producers' sleeves, you are mistaken. Three of the final 12, who are considered "wild cards" will be voted in by the judges! FANTASITC!

The last change for this season is that we won't have to sit through Idol Gives Back. Sure the millions raised go to great causes but it's just so long and drawn out, oh wait, so is any other episode of this show but hopefully you know what I mean.

Well, there goes most of my weeknights for the next few months. Sure, I could just record it but it's never the same. I want to have to sit through the good, bad and the ugly. So have you been watching?? What do you think of the new judge?? What are you most looking forward to?

Off the Wagon Mike: LOST Finally Returns

Hey, it's Off the Wagon Mike here with a report on the first two episodes of Lost that are airing tonight. Since I shouldn't post any spoilers, or even really give any details about the episodes, the show knows how to start off the new season in a great way. I absolutely loved both episodes and they provide a fantastic setup for future episodes.

As usual with Lost, we get the answers to some questions all the while being left with new questions to ponder. We do find out pretty quickly why the Oceanic 6 needed to return to the island, because it seems that if they don't, the people on the island are going to be in some big trouble. I was very happy to see Rose and Bernard in both episodes, even if they didn't have too large of parts, but they are my favorite characters, so it's always nice to see them. Also, it seems as if the uses of flashbacks and flashforwards are done for now at least. They are replaced with the drama happening on and off the island. I'm glad for this, because I always felt like those took away from the action of the show. Almost all of the main characters are accounted for at one point or another, except for one character who is contracted to be on the show this season, but didn't have a particularly hopeful end to last season.

If nothing else, these two episodes continue the greatness of last season, and keep the action going throughout, with a few great character moments in each. I'm excited to catch the next episode and I'm very glad that the long wait for Lost is finally over.

It's Monday, kiddos, which means another list of what hits the virtual store shelves this week.

Editor's picks once again go to the Brits with what was a discovery for us of an unknown series from 1975 featuring every mother in law's worse nightmare, Les Dawson in Dawson's Weekly. Our second pick for the week is Louis Theroux's The Strange and the Dangerous. We have a confession to make, we have a huge crush on Mr. Theroux. Sure he's no Johnny Depp but there is something just so sexy about him and his mind that we can't resist. And finally, MI-5 aka Spooks in the UK hits American shores with the release of Series 6 where our favorite spies try to stop Iran and Russia from blowing the world to kingdom come.

Second Chance Saloon: Jericho Should Take a Cue from Skins

Yes, like thousands of others out there, I am still reeling over the cancellation of the cult hit, Jericho. Sure, it didn't have the best acting or plot lines but still it was a very timely look at what would happen if the US was the victim of a nuclear terrorist attack that was orchestrated by our own government. I started watching it as a form of therapy since as a small child I was always haunted by the prospect of a nuclear apocalypse thanks to watching The Day After. Yes I know if you watch that made for TV movie now it is horrible and just absolutely laughable but back in 1983 when the cold war was still raging and you are 10 years old, it was some scary shit!

So I figured I would watch Jericho and not cover my eyes when the bombs went off and conquer my fear. It worked but now I am jonesing for more. It was officially sent to the TV graveyard last year, however, it didn't go down without a fight. Some addicts even formed Save Jericho Again, which has helped to bring the show back into syndication on the CW where it's getting decent ratings as well as producing their own commercials begging for its return that have aired on the Sci-Fi Channel. Prior to that there was the "NUTS" campaign which was a grassroots effort where fans sent peanuts to the network so that they could visualize their plea and managed to get the last few episodes aired after a three month hiatus. Not sure how sane that was but hey, people are still talking about and it was effective. Now there are talks of bringing it to the big screen so that us, loyal viewers, might finally get some closure.

So in light of the news that we might get to see Hawkins and company once again, I have a suggestion for the writers. While I never thought it would be possible to find a way to correlate the post-apocalyptic Jericho to the teen Brit phenomenon, Skins, I, for one, think that Jon Turteltaub should do lunch with the writers over at E4. Why might you ask??? Well, you see the new series of Skins has changed its focus from Tony and his gang since they have all left for uni or the real world and now we have a whole new group of dysfunctional teenagers to check out. It keeps the show fresh and interesting and frankly, it's a bloody brilliant idea. Instead of just Jericho, let's see what's happening in say Tallahasee or Cheyenne or any other city that survived the nuclear holocaust and I am not just meaning how they are after all this time but two seasons at least devoted to their struggles. How much fun would that be! So what would you like to see in the Jericho film??

Peace Out - Ricardo Montalban

It's a sad day here at TVholics Anonymous. Ricardo Montalban passed away this morning at his home at the age of 88. Best known for his role as Mr. Roarke on Fantasy Island, Ricardo's television legacy was just not limited to that show. Turns out Mr. Montalaban was not only an Emmy award winning actor but also a Tony winner as well as is known for his philanthropy. Other shows that his powerful presence graced would include Dynasty and its spin off The Colbys, The Virginian, Marcus Welby MD, Gunsmoke, Star Trek (yes, he played Khan in both the television series and film), Dr. Kildare and Hawaii Five-O to name but a few. Ricardo, you will be sorely missed.

Peace Out: Number Six aka Patrick McGoohan

It's with a heavy heart that we have to report that Patrick McGoohan has passed away at the age of 80 after a brief illness. If you are unfamiliar with Patrick's career, he is most notably recognized for his title role The Prisoner, a British kind of sci-fi-esque series from the 60's that follows "Number Six," a former spy who after resigning from the force is held against his will in a place only known as "The Village," an absolutely surreal setting which actually does exist in the little town of Portmeirion in North Wales (Check out this link to find out the origins of this Portofino replica, it's absolutely fascinating!) As another side note, for, you, Simpsons' fans out there, they did a tribute to The Prisoner with Patrick reprising his role of Number Six in the episode, The Computer Wore Menace Shoes. And in case you are wondering what this show would be like with a more modern flare, AMC has just wrappped on a six-part remake of the series set in the 21st century and will be premiering later this year in November.

TV to Own: New Release for the Week of January 12th

More goodies from home and across the pond for you this week courtesy of TVholics Anonymous new TV to Own.

This week there are a whole host of Editor's choices and they are all British. The obvious choice is Skins. The new season is starting in the UK on January 22nd over at E4. I will have to wait a few days after its airdate to get my copy but I can hardly wait to meet the new cast.

Other choices that we will be adding to our already huge collection of DVDs will be Saxondale starring the remarkable Steve Coogan. Absolutely hysterical! Nothing like an old washed up ex-roadie trying to assimilate to civilian life to ease your own worries.

And last but not least, Little Britain USA. TVholics doesn't subscribe to the "premium" channels mainly due to the fact that there are not enough new films or series to warrant all of the B movies from the early 80's that these channels seem to rotate ad nauseum. We have heard many mixed reviews about David Walliams and Matt Lucas' plunge into American telly and it's finally time for us to check it out for ourselves. Part of me is hoping it's just as great as the original Little Britain but at the same time I don't think it will translate across cultures. Stay tuned for our thoughts on the matter.

TLC's Toddlers & Tiaras - Cue the Kitten Fights

Once again I found myself minding my own business while watching the latest episode of LA Ink on The Learning Channel and what did I spy with my little eye as I was fast forwarding through the adverts, coming soon: Toddlers & Tiaras. At first I thought it was just a commercial for WE's Little Miss Perfect but upon watching it again, it dawned on me that the world somehow needs two reality shows documenting the lives of little girls vying for the almighty blinged out tiara, sky high statue and scholarship checks. According to the press release, this new found fascination in child pageantry is the result of the popularity of Little Miss Sunshine.

Unlike Little Miss Perfect, which seeks to pit two girls against each other each week for the title of LMP, Toddlers and Tiaras is more of a docu-reality show where each week we will travel with a new group of beauty pageant contenders, their families and assorted entourage as they battle it out for the sash and crown. What makes TLC's show more intriguing is that it explores not just the stereotypical idea of a child pageant but also pageants where more natural looks are encouraged and even more interesting they will be following a few boys who are seeking the glory of being deemed Little Mister Perfect. Since I had never really considered the thought of little boys taking part in all the glitz and glamour that it is the child pageant circuit, I had a look on google and could hardly find anything apart from infant contests. So this aspect of the show is what is really pulling me in.

To watch the sequins twinkle, parents erupting like volcanos and hopefully not too many kitten fights (would that be the correct term for toddlers clawing their way to fame and glory) tune into TLC, Tuesday, January 27th at 10pm for Toddlers & Tiaras. It's must watch TV for every addict looking for their fix.

Superstars of Dance - A Kitsch United Nations

I somehow missed the premiere of NBC's new Superstars of Dance but managed to catch the next episode. Being a fan of FOX's So You Think You Can Dance, I figured this would be amazing. Yes, the dancers are phenomenal but the rest of the show is just unwatchable. It's times like this that I thank profusely the inventor of the DVR.

Honestly, the set looks like it came from a game show straight out of the 80's and felt like a kitsch United Nations meeting with many of the judges in their It's a Small World costumes. I get that they are in traditional dress but something just feels so wrong about it. What I really hate is how the judges just announce their score with little explanation and when they do try to give us some form of justification, they drone on that there was a lack of dancing involved and usually in a gruff manner. Last time I looked up the definition of dance, apart from standing still and even that is debatable, all movement choreographed and/or set to music of any form was considered dance! It seems to me that if the performance is not comprised of a traditional or Western form then it receives a lower score and accused of lacking enough "dance." Unfortunately due to a lack of translators, many of the contestants can't defend themselves after judging but it was refreshing to see some of them speak up.

And don't get me started on the production team!!!! Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Fuller must have brought the same cameramen from SYTYCD as the camera angles are a joke! It's a dance competition, people! That means we want to see the whole routine from the top of their heads to their tippy toes not sweeping camera angles and close ups of the dancers smiling.

I do think the initial concept of the show is good in principal. Exposing viewers to the best dancers from around the world in their cultures' dance is a fantastic idea but sadly it doesn't translate well as a reality show. There's no real way you can compare the dance styles of Bollywood to ballroom to Chinese fighting to hip hop. It's IMPOSSIBLE to say the very least. And to make matters worse the winner will be deemed the best in the world yet like most American "world" competitions, the entire world is not invited. But it did leave me wondering, what if the United Nations used dance to solve the world's problems. Now that would make for some interesting viewing, don't you think?
